Introduction: Construct Your Own Lightsaber
Hi, my name is Rob, I build lightsabers, and I help do videos for The Custom Saber Shop.
In this instructable, you will learn the steps to construct your very own lightsaber similar to the one pictured above but more basic. It will be strong enough to fight with, and light up a room.
The basics of this will be a machined aluminum handle, high power LED, electronics, and a polycarbonate (bulletproof plastic) blade.
Step 1: Pick Your Style
There are so many different types of lightsaber you could make that the possibilities can be overwhelming. That's why it's important to pick something specific to start with. For the purposes of this instructable, we will be building a basic saber without sound.
You'll also want to select your blade style and strength. We'll be using 1" (outside diameter) blades.

Step 2: Select Your Parts
There are many places to get parts to build your saber, but the best online source is www.thecustomsabershop.com
This video will help you navigate the world of saber parts!
Step 3: Learn to Solder on the Fly
This is going to be easier than you think. As long as you have a decent soldering iron, you can learn quickly by practicing on some scrap wires or old broken electronics.
This video will walk you through the steps of assembling your basic lightsaber.
Here's a pic of the updated battery holder which is much easier to work with.
Step 4: Find a Friend and Learn to Fight!
While you will look cool swinging your lit up saber in the park at night by yourself, the cool factor goes off the chart if there are TWO OF YOU!
