When the power goes out or you're out camping, you don't want to have to hold your flashlight all the time because you need to use your hands for other things. I used parts from a solar lawn lamp that I took apart to fix that problem. - Lawn Lamp project

Parts Used

  • Metal tube
  • Metal base
  • Clear plastic cup
  • Flashlight

Tools Needed

  • Hot glue gun
  • Band saw

The result is an attachment that you can add to the front of your flashlight to make it into a lantern. It is completely reversible and not permanent so you don't have to worry about wrecking your flashlight.

Step 1: Make the Base

In this step we are going to use the plastic cup from the lawn lamp to make the reflector for the lantern.

  1. Cut the Smaller part off of the rest of the cup and sand it down (1 & 2)
  2. Glue the cup onto the metal base with the open side facing up
  3. put the flashlight in the opening so that it faces toward the reflective piece

Step 2: Test It Out

Set the light upside down so that it sits on the metal base and see how it works!
