Intro: Cookie Cats!

They're super yummy! Cookie cats!
They're a pet for your tummy!
So, Stevenbomb is happening this week, and what better way to enjoy it than with cookie cats? For those of you not familiar, cookie cats are Steven's favorite brand of now discontinued ice cream sandwiches. The recipe I am using is largely inspired from the one here*. The main difference is that we will be using marshmallows because:
1.) I'm lazy
2.) It's easier
3.) No need to worry about it melting!
So, without further ado, let's get cooking!

STEP 1: Getting Ingredients and Tools!

To make our tasty treats we will need:
• half a box of chocolate cake mix
• one egg
• 1/4 cup of butter
• 1/4 cup all purpose flour
• 1 1/2 tsp. water
• regular white marshmallows
• not-as-regular pink marshmallows

Tools:
• parchment paper
• plastic wrap
• something to mix ingredients (blender, whisk..)
• wire coat hanger (to make cookie cutter)
• small circular cutter, like a gutted pen
• Steven's shield for excessive fan dedication and plating*

Note: don't want to use half a box of cake mix? Just double the rest of the ingredients!

*shield not actually necessary, but totally awesome

STEP 2: Making a Cookie Cutter

Sorry, didn't take that many pictures here. But, let's start by cutting out a fairly long and straight piece of a wire coat hanger. The long bottommost strip will be just fine. Start by bending the piece into a rectangle with completely rounded corners, making sure to have overlap on the top straight portion. It's probably a good idea to have pliers in hand to help. Once you have a fairly decent shape, take the open ends on the top and bend them into triangles for the ears. Trim off the excess overlap, and tada! You've just made yourself a Cookie Cat cookie cutter!

Of course, you could always just buy a cat head cookie cutter online...

STEP 3: Cooking (Cats)!

Now that we have a cookie cutter, or now that it arrived from shipping, let's cook those cats! Let's start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees F. Soften that butter! Use the microwave, no one has time to wait for it to soften on its own! We have shows to watch! Now combine the cake mix, flour, water, egg, and butter and mix it together until it's combined. Now wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it for 15 minutes in the freezer. Watch an episode of Steven Universe to pass the time. Show's over? That means you can take the dough out! Now, get a piece of parchment paper out about the size of you baking sheet. Put the dough on it, then roll it flat to about 1/8 inch thickness. Now grab you cat head! Cut out an even number of cat heads out of your dough. Now, cut out eyes for half of your cat heads. Bake it in the oven for 5-6 minutes. Ball up excess dough and repeat the process, starting from freezing. Or just eat it.

STEP 4: Finishing Up

When the cats finish cooking, let them cool for a little bit, the move them to the shield/plate to cool completely. Now is a good time to make any other cats if you have extra dough. Now, let's finish them! Start by taking both types of marshmallows and cutting them in half lengthwise. Now, take a cookie that doesn't have eyes, turn it over, and put a marshmallow half on each side in the center. Nuke it in the microwave for 10 seconds. Put on a head and clean up the eyes. Congratulations! You're finished!

STEP 5: Enjoy!

Congratulations! You've just made the best pet for your tummy ever! Now you can enjoy Stevenbomb with the best snacks ever! Don't forget! Start with the ears...

I was only slightly saddened that these were not made from real cats . . . ;)

The simple way you made the cookie cutter is excellent. Thanks for the idea!
