Intro: Cork Your Files !

How to turn your wine corks into a innovative stylish USB Flash Drive.

STEP 1: Step One

Find Some Good Tasting Wine.

STEP 2: Step Two

Find a Cheap Easy To disassemble usb flash drive (I used a 128Mb Nexxtech drive from the source)

STEP 3: Step Three

Enjoy your Wine.

STEP 4: Step Four

Disassemble your Usb Drive (Carefully) examine What Seams the casing together mine was easy because there is a plastic piece at the end that you can pull out of the casing.

STEP 5: Step Five

Get the Cork from your wine and find a sharp tool ie; Exacto knife or blade from one.
Start carving out the shape to fit the usb circuit from your flash drive into it.

STEP 6: Step Six(Optional)

This Step is implemented if step 5 became too tedious or annoying:

Find a soldering iron (or station) , make sure you have proper ventilation and a way to clean off the soldering iron after. Use the soldering iron to melt out the shape for your flash drive into the cork

STEP 7: Step Seven

Time to Insert the Flashdrive into the cork!   Carefully Insert the Usb Circuit from the drive into the cork, do this by Gently pressing it into the cork, you want to make sure its recessed just past the weak spot where the usb plug is soldered
(this helps make sure it doesn't get bent in future use).

STEP 8: Step 8

Now Its Pretty Much Complete!

To make it a better more finalized product you should use a hot glue gun and fill in any gaps where
the cork was carved out however I did not have one available at the time.

STEP 9: Step 9

Plug the CorkDrive into a computer's free usb port to test it out!

STEP 10: Can Also Be Used For...

A CAT TOY!
The Cork Casing adds a semi Bouncy/Rugged Protection for the drive to be used in environments where pets may bat it around the floor.

Awsome project. I did this myself after reading your instructable. I used a super thin usb with retractable tip. With the modification of cutting a small trnch so that i can side it in and out. The fit was snug so no glue nessicary. It works great for my usb port in my car! I've had issues with breakins but one ones going to bust my window for a winecork :) thanks!
Youre Welcome ! I have not been on here for a while sorry for the lonnnng
delay in response but your mod to it is very cool!
Haha. I didn’t know your wine bottle neck was that long.
is your cat having kittens or is it just, well.. fat? no offence, really, just guessing :)
Just a quick question:  How does putting the circuit board in the cork affect the functionality of the USB over time?  Are there any negative effects?  If not, I will surely do this to my USB, mainly because the plastic case is breaking.
Unsure as I just completed this two days ago, also why I suggest finding a cheap usb drive to test this with first 128 mb ones usually fall under the $5 mark nowadays also mine has not been filled with glue which leaves plenty of ventilation.
Yeah, I was going to leaev the glue out, too.  I have an old crappy USB drive I could test it on before I use it on my main one.
jimboi$best in regards to geekvig - paying attention to step 3 often leads to poor spelling.
The most important step is of course step three.  If you fail to perform this step correctly your USB may malfunction.  ;p
*Ahem* You're is you are. Your maybe? Great Pictures though

Yeah it's rugged - those plastic-corks are tough!
