Create Your Own Website | Free, Fun, Quick, and Easy

In this instructable, you will learn how to create your own website using a free, quick, and easy to use builder.

Step 1: Create a Wix.com Account

Go to Wix.com and click sign in. Then, click on "I am a new user". Then Type an email and password. It will ask you to retype both for verification. Then click sign up.

Once you are signed in, click "My Sites" at the top.

Note: If your email is not working for some reason, you can sign up off to the side using Facebook or Google+

Step 2: Create Your Website

Click "Create your website" and you will be brought to a wide variety of templates that you can use. If none of them are what you are looking for, you can click "Blank Templates" and choose one. Once you have found the one that you like, hover over it and click "Edit".

This will open a new window where you can create your website. You can edit to make different pages, stories, videos, VIP pages, and more.

It is a good idea to save every few minutes just so you don't lose anything. To save, go to the top right-hand corner and click "Save". If this is your first time saving, it will as you to pick a domain. This can be whatever you want, as long as it is not taken and it is less than 20 characters, but more than 4.

Your domain will always be set like this:

www."your email from start to @".wix.com/"Domain you choose"

Here is a way to see it better:

Say your email was [e-mail] and your domain is WixWebsite, then your web address would read:

www.instructables.wix.com/wixwebsite

If you own your own domain such as a school, work, business, you can also use that. (See Step about packages for more information)

***PLEASE NOTE: Your site will not be live until you click Publish***

Step 3: Collaboration

This is not a required step, but it is very helpful to building up a good looking website. Collaboration is when you share your site with others so that they can help you make it even better. To do this, navigate to your site's "Dashboard page" by going to the top and clicking "Site" then clicking "My Dashboard". You are going to find Contributors under the Apps section. Click it. Then you will want to invite someone by email. Click "Add Contributor". It does not matter the person you are inviting has an account or not, because it will ask them to sign up, then help you edit.

Step 4: SEO Wizard

Again, Optional but helpful. SEO Wizard shows how well people searching on Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc are finding your site. To See, Go back to your Dashboard and under apps find SEO Wizard. Click it and enter something that you think google would find your site for. I am going to run my site through so that you can see.

My Website is a showcase of my Instructables. If I make my search phrase "Instructables", then see the results. 1/3 sections passed. (I changed some things just for this, but it usually is 3/3) Using what it tells you, you know what changes to make to get more people visiting your site.

Step 5: Packages

Different Packages include different features, so you have to look through them carefully. I do not use them because they really don't serve a sufficient cause for me, but if you are making a website for school, a business, band, etc, then you might want to consider it.
