Intro: Creating a System Restore Point

this is great if your going to surf the web to find something you arn't supposed like (ex: keygens, serial numbers, etc) cause if you get a virus you can restore your computer to an earlier time and you wont have a virus :D

STEP 1: Find System Restore

navigate to system restore:

start>all programs> accessories> system tools> system restore

except the fact that viruses can be saved in system restore, which is why when people try to rid themselves of viruses, they dont always work....its because they are saved into system restore... If you get anything bad on your pc, you can just download Malwarebyte's Antimalware and download.com...works wonders, even with this Antivirus 2008, Antivirus 2009, and all the other variants that are going around right now.....this will rip them right out of your system....and its free. This is a good ible for a system restore, but not for "virus removal"

This can work if you have a clean restore point, unfortunately there are a couple of newish viruses of the 'Vundo' family [and probably others] which will either infect your restore points or simply delete them altogether. Running a good AV program is an obvious necessity, but a strong 3rd party firewall like Zonealarm is even more important. Hackers either directly run or at least monitor traffic into "suspect" sites looking for easy targets. Windows' built in firewall is easily compromised, and once it's down you're toast. A hacker can deliver a trojan/virus "package" which within a few seconds will disable your AV software, undo every last security setting within Windows, and load a host of nasty programs which are nearly impossible to remove. Using system restore would be a godsend in such cases, but what you'd need is a clean restore point copy saved to an external drive and a way to get it installed. Some viruses even disable your ability to start Windows in safe mode, so you'd need to be able to load the backup restore point after starting from a boot disc. This should be possible, and detailing how would be a great Instructable.
