Introduction: Creating the Limbs

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

The limbs are a bit complicated. If you are a beginner you can find them on the left side of the workplane. If you want to challenge yourself, try to make the limbs yourself.

Instructions

  1. Select the limbs at the side of the workplane
    .
  2. Move them closer to the body.
  3. Select the front arm and move it to the body.
  4. Move the back leg to the body.
  5. Move your camera so you can see both sides of the alligator body.
  6. Make a copy of the arm and leg and move them to the other side of the alligator.
  7. Mirror the limbs and move them towards the body.
  8. Change the color of all objects to dark green.
  9. Continue to the next step.

Step 1: Creating the Torso

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

Let's continue by creating the Torso!

Instructions

  1. Place a box and scale the sides in so it is 8mm. Center the box to any of the previous objects.
  2. Press W to use the workplane tool. Select the right side of the box. Place a half cylinder.
  3. Repeat Step 2 for the opposite side of the box. Select all three objects and align them together as shown in the image.
  4. Rotate the objects 90 degrees and connect them to the shoulders.
  5. Lengthen the body so that it is 35mm long
  6. Use the workplane tool to place a paraboloid on the back end of the body.
  7. Rotate the paraboloid -14 degrees. The bottom edge should be parallel with the alligator's belly.
  8. Continue to the next step.

Step 2: Creating the Tail

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

Let's finish the body with a tail!

Instructions

  1. Place a pyramid on the workplane. This will be the first part of the tail that connects to the body. Scale the height up to about 60mm and make the width the same as the box used for the spine. Rotate the tail and move it into place.
  2. Make a new cube and turn it into a hole. Move it so it covers the top half of the pyramid. Group the box and pyramid together. The image shows how much of the pyramid to remove.
  3. Make a copy of the tail and move it further down.
  4. Rotate the copy so the bottom side is parallel with the ground. Ungroup it and delete the hole box
  5. Scale the height down so both parts of the tail are the same height where they connect.
  6. Continue to the next lesson.
