Introduction: Creating the Outer Shape
The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.
Here is the shape we will be creating.
Instructions
- Drag a cylinder onto the workplane. Resize the diameter to 50mm.
- Drag a box onto the workplane. Resize it to 50mm by 60mm. Align the top edge of the box to the middle of the cylinder. Group the shapes.
- Drag a roof onto the workplane. Rotate it 90 degrees around the x-axis. Resize its height (z-axis) above 25mm (35mm works well).
- Change the snap grid to 0.5mm. Resize the roof shape to 12.5mm width (x-axis) and 10mm length (y-axis).
Copy the roof shape 3 times and line them up corner to corner. If you
are having trouble lining them up try adjusting the snap grid to 0.25mm. (Tip: Copy and line up two roof shapes, then copy the pair and line up both pairs).Select all the roof shapes and make them a group. Turn that group into a hole.
Select both groups on your workplane and use the Align tool to align them centered along their bottom edges.
Group these two groups together to cut out the bottom of your ghost.
- Continue to the next step.
Step 1: Hollow Out the Middle
The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.
Now we need to hollow it out.
Instructions
- Duplicate the ghost shape and lower the height of the duplicate to 12mm.
- Select the taller of the two overlapping ghost shapes and move the bottom edge (the zig-zag) in by 2mm.
- Drag a box to the workplane so that it is touching the right edge of the ghost. Increase the length of the box to 90mm.
- Duplicate the box and drag the duplicate so it is touching the left edge of the ghost.
- Nudge each box 2mm towards the ghost (so they overlap). Change the boxes to holes.
- Select the two box holes and the taller ghost shape (do not select the shorter ghost shape) and group them.
- Drag a box onto the workplane and change its dimensions to 25mm long and 60mm wide.
- Align the top edge and center of the box with BOTH ghost shapes.
- Change the box to a hole. Select the box hole and taller ghost shape and group.
- Lift the taller ghost off the workplane by 2mm.
- Convert the taller ghost to a hole and group with the other ghost shape.
- Drag a cylinder to the workplane. Change its dimensions to 50mm long and 46mm wide.
- Align the cylinder with the top edge and center of the ghost shape.
- Nudge the cylinder 2mm down from the top edge of the ghost.
- Select the shape and select Copy from the edit menu on the toolbar.
This will copy the design to the clipboard so it can be pasted into the next lesson.
- Continue to the next lesson.
