Sometimes you only need a small energy source for you wearable project. This tutorial will teach how to make a crochet battery holder for 3v cell coin battery. It was prepared by Tineke Van Hilten during her internship at POPKALAB. We tried to make it as visual as possible. You find bellow a list of what you need and the type of stitches used to make it.

Materials:

- Conductive thread

- Cotton yarn

Tools:

- Crochet hook

- Scissors

Stitches:

- Chain

- Single Crochet

- Half double crochet

- Double crochet

Step 1: Row 1. Conductive Thread

  1. Make slip knot
  2. Chain 5x [6st]
  3. Chain through the first and last loop

Step 2: Row 2. Conductive Thread

  1. Chain 1, to make first stitch
  2. Half double crochet in same loop as first stitch and twice in all following loops [10st]
  3. Close circle with chain through first and last loop
  4. Chain 10 for conductive side loop

Step 3: Row 3. Cotton

  1. Pull loop and chain 3x, to make first stitch
  2. Double crochet in same loop as first stitch and twice in all following loops [20st]
  3. Close circle, cut the yarn and pull it through the loops as shown to make it invisible, work the tail into the bottom of the battery holder
  4. Create conductive side loop, attach tail to bottom of conductive circle

Step 4: Row 4. Cotton

  1. Pull loop in-between stitches from Row 3
  2. Chain 1x, to make first stitch
  3. Half double crochet by pulling loops in-between stitches [20st]
  4. Close Row 4, cut the yarn and pull it through the loops as shown to make it invisible, work the tail into the bottom of the battery holder

Step 5: Row 5. Conductive Thread

  1. Pull loop and chain 1
  2. Single crochet in every loop of Row 4 [20st]
  3. Chain through the first and last loop
  4. Chain 3x and pull loop trough loop at the bottom
  5. Chain 4x and fix end tail to form the side loop

When you are done use a multimeter to check if it works. it should!

Now you can attach it to your circuit and have fun!
