Crochet Bee

This crochet bee is the perfect little decoration for any space, and a very adorable friend. It is very easy to make, great for beginners to crochet.

Supplies

-Yellow yarn (any thickness)

-Black yarn (same thickness as yellow yarn)

-Blue yarn (any thickness)

-Crochet hook (fitting size for yarn thickness)

-Scissors

-Yarn needle

-Safety pin(s) (or stitch markers, if accessible)

-Stuffing

I am using medium weight (4) black and yellow yarn from Impeccable and Bernat super bulky (6) for blue yarn. The size of your bee will depend on the thickness of the yarn you use. I am also using a 3.5mm hook, even though the recommended for my yarn is 5mm, as a smaller crochet hook tends to be an advantage for the amigurumi style. I have an 8mm hook for my thicker yarn.

Step 1: Stitches You Need to Know

This pattern requires only 4 different types of crochet stitches/techniques:

Single crochet (sc): A single crochet into one stitch

Amigurumi ring (AR): A circle that starts an amigurumi pattern

Increase (inc): Two single crochets into one stitch

Decrease (dec): A single crochet off through the front loops of two stitches

How to read pattern:

(stitch pattern) x number repeated (number of stitches at the end of round)

Step 2: Starting the Bee

Start by making an AR with yellow yarn

Step 3: Round 1

Make six single crochets into the center of the AR by going under both the tail end and circle piece of the AR, pulling yarn through, yarn over, and pulling through and repeating six times. Make sure you do not lose the tail end of your AR.

Step 4: Round 2

Make an increase into each stitch by making two single crochets into each stitch. Throughout this pattern, mark your first stitch with a safety pin. After making that first stitch, pull the tail end of your AR to tighten the circle.

Step 5: Round 3

Make a single crochet stitch, mark it. Make an increase into the next stitch. Repeat 6 times.

Step 6: Round 4

Make two single crochets. Make an increase into the next stitch. Repeat 6 times.

Step 7: Round 5-6

Make a single crochet into each stitch for both rounds. On the last stitch of round 6, switch colors to black by making a normal single crochet and then using black as the yarn over and pull through. Cut the yellow yarn and tie together with the end of the black yarn.

Step 8: Rounds 7-9

Make a single crochet into each stitch for all 3 rounds. On the last stitch of round 9, switch back to yellow the same way as in round 6.

Step 9: Rounds 10-12

Make a single crochet into each stitch for all 3 rounds.

Step 10: Round 13

Make 2 single crochet stitches, then an invisible decrease stitch by putting your hook through the front loops only of the next two stitches and then continuing to make a normal single crochet stitch. Repeat six times.

Step 11: Round 14

On the first stitch (sc), switch yarn to black. Then, make a decrease in the next two stitches. Repeat twelve times.

Step 12: Stuff

Stuff your bee to your desired fill

Step 13: Round 15

Decrease on all stitches (six times).

Step 14: Finish the Body

Tie off the crochet. Use a yarn needle to sew through each stitch and close the bottom of the bee. Weave in the end. Your bee's body is now complete!

Step 15: Wings

Stitch desired number of single crochets into a new AR in blue. For my smaller bee, I only stitched 3 sc, while my larger bee had 6 sc. Sew into desired placement. I also only used 3 stitches because my yarn was quite larger than that I used for the main body of the bee.

Step 16: Eyes

Same as the wings, stitch desired number of single crochets into a new AR but in black. Again, I only stitched 3 sc for my smaller bee, while my larger bee had 6 sc. My yarn is also thinner than for the wings, making the eyes smaller. Sew into desired location.

Step 17: Finished!
