Introduction: Crochet Blueberry Cross-body Messenger Bag

I love to make crochet patterns in my spare time, and while messing around and just crocheting in a circle I came up with the idea of a fruit bag, and using skeins I already had lying around the house I came up with the idea for a blueberry bag as a unique addition to an outfit or costume.

Supplies

  • 1 Skein of Big Twist Value Yarn in colors purple, grape and light green.
  • 4.5 mm hook
  • Darning needle
  • Shears

Abbreviations to know

  • MC - magic circle or magic ring
  • dc - double crochet (american)
  • sc - single crochet (american)
  • inc - increase
  • ch - chain
  • sk - skip

Step 1: Body of the Bag

Start with color Purple

1: MC 8 (8)

2: (dc inc) x 8 (16)

3: (inc, sc) x 8 (24)

4: (inc, 2 sc) x 8 (32)

5: (dc inc, 3 dc) x 8 (40)

6: (inc, 4 sc) x 8 (48)

7: (inc, 5 sc) x 8 (56)

8: (dc inc, 6 dc) x 8 (64)

9: sc 64 (64)

10-23: dc 64 (64)

24: (ch 4, sk 3, sc) x 16 (64)

Change to color Grape

25: put three dc into one stitch, then dc. Repeat this pattern 32 times until all the way around.

26: cut and weave all edges

Step 2: Straps and Tie

Using color light green, ch two lines, one 5ft (1.5m) long, the other 50" (1.3m) long.

On the longer chain leave 2-3" (~2cm) of yarn to sew into the bag as the strap. On the shorter piece, weave edges into ch.

Step 3: Putting It All Together

1 - Weave shorter ch into the slits made in row 24

2 - Flatten bag, and find the middle. Sew one end of the long strap into row 23

3 - Flip the bag to the other side, find the center and sew the other end in.

Step 4: Enjoy

Thank you for reading my pattern! Enjoy your blueberry bag!
