Introduction: Crochet Eggplant
Okay, normally fuzzy eggplants are bad, but this one is cute! It's about 3 inches tall and makes a fun decoration, keychain, or whatever. Plus it only takes about half an hour and a wee bit of yarn!
Step 1: Supplies
I used a size F crochet hook, some green cotton 4 ply yarn, and some unevenly spun purple yarn I had laying around. You'll need something to stuff the eggplant with, too. Since the purple yarn was thin in places, I just stuffed it with more purple yarn, but if you use thicker yarn for the outside, you could use regular stuffing (or yarn shards like ultimatecraftfan did).
Step 2: The Pattern
In green:
ch6, sl st in first st (6 sts)
*2sc in next st, 1sc in next st*
repeat starred section all around row (9 sts)
sc all around (9 sts). Sl st in next st. Attach purple yarn.
sc all around for 3 rows
*2sc in next st, 1sc in next st*
repeat starred section 8 times (12 sts)
sc all around
*sc2tog*
repeat starred area 6 times (6 sts)
Stuff the eggplant and stitch up the bottom. Make sure to accentuate the bulgy part.
NOTE: I forgot to add leaves to my eggplant. This might be easily done by sc-ing a strand and sewing it onto the top such that it sticks out in some places.
Now you're done!
Step 3: The End
I put mine on the windowsill above our kitchen sink.
Please show me pictures of your eggplant if you make it! And your vote in the contests would make my day. Happy hooking!
Cheers!
