About: I love to work with my hands. Mostly I knit and crochet but I have dabbled in all kinds of crafts. Making things makes me so happy! I love seeing something beautiful take shape in my hands. Also I love taking …

Have you ever been looking for that perfect gift for someone and you just couldn't find anything? Well, look no further. Just whip up one of these hats and give the gift of "yourself" all wrapped up and tied with a bow!

I designed this hat for the silly hat challenge. If you like my instructable I would really appreciate votes!

Supplies

You will need:

  • 1 skein of red yarn
  • a little bit of white yarn
  • crochet hooks
  • tapestry needle

Step 1: Crochet Hat Pattern

For this hat I used a size I 5.5 mm hook. You can use whatever size you need to get the gauge right.

Gauge: 12 dc stitches and 7 dc rows = 4" square

Using your red yarn, start by making a magic circle.

Round 1: Ch 3, 10 dc into magic circle. (10 sts)

Round 2: Ch 3, 2dc in each st around. Sl st to ch 3 to join. (20 sts)

Round 3: Ch 3, *2dc, dc repeat from* around. Join. (30 sts)

Round 4: Ch 3, *2dc, dc in next two sts, repeat from* around. Join. (40 sts)

Round 5: Ch 3, *2dc, dc in next three sts, repeat from* around. Join. (50 sts)

Round 6: Ch 3, *2dc, dc in next four sts, repeat from* around. Join. (60 sts)

Round 7: Ch 3, *2dc, dc in next five sts, repeat from * around. Join. (70 sts)

Round 8-15: Ch 3, dc around. Join. (70 sts)

Tie off and weave in ends. Now it's time to add your ribbon!

Step 2: Make Ribbon

Now to make the ribbon for your hat. You will make two of these with your white yarn.

I used a smaller hook, size G 4.0 mm, to get a tighter material for the ribbon. You can use whatever size you want.

Make 2.

Row 1: Ch 5, sc into 2nd ch from hook and each st across. Ch 1, turn. (4 sts)

Row 2: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (4 sts)

Repeat row 2 until ribbon is long enough to go all the way over the hat.

Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Once you have your two ribbons use your tapestry needle to sew them in place in a criss cross pattern on the hat.

Step 3: Make Your Bow

Now it's time to crochet the bow.

Row 1: Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Ch 1, turn. (2 sts)

Row 2: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (2 sts)

Repeat row 2 until your piece measures about 32".

To assemble the bow, gather up your piece in loops going back and forth then wrap the yarn tail around the middle of your loops. Tie off. Fluff out all your loops and sew to the top of your hat.

That's it! I hope you will enjoy making and wearing your gift hat as much as I did!
