Here is my crochet haunted house, with a ghost, witch, zombie (er half zombie) and skeleton, plus a spooky tree, some pumpkins and an ominous figure in the window.

To bring this scary scene alive, I added some special effects, there are lights inside the house and in the pumpkins and the ghost glows in the dark. When you press on the coffin it plays the monster mash. Likewise, when you press on the zombie he laughs maniacally. And with the help of a servo motor the witch and ghost chase each other in a circle above the roof of the house.

I then dilluted some glow in the dark paint with water and dipped the ghost into it. Once dry I added two felt circles for eyes.

The entire skeleton is made with off white yarn.

Step 4: Skeleton Assembly

To put the skeleton together, I made 8 chain stitches from the base of the head slipped it through the top of the rib cage and connected it to the top of the pelvis. I then attached the legs to the pelvis and the arms to the top of the ribs. I added two felt circles for eyes and stitched a mouth with embroidery thread. I then made a noose with rough cord to hang poor skely from the tree.

Step 6: Witch Assembly

To assemble the witch, sew the nose to the centre of the face. Add plastic eyes. I added hair using black textured yarn. I cut the yarn in strands twice the length that I want the hair to be and hooked it through the holes in the head.(See this for instructions. ). Cover the head with hair and trim with scissors to make it look nice. Stitch the hat to the head and head to the body. Stitch one end of the arm to each shoulder forming a loop.

The witches broom is made by tying some raffia to part of a bamboo skewer and then secured it to the underside of the witch and through the arm loop.

Step 7: Zombie

Use green yarn for the zombie, except for the eyes.

Step 8: Zombie Assembly

I used french knots with back embroidery thread for the pupils of the eyes and the mouth. I stitched one eye directly to the head. The second eye was attached loosely with red embroidery thread. I also made some stitches with red thread on the end of the short arm. I added a bit of brown hair to the top of the head (see step 6 about adding hair). I stitched the head and arms to the torso. I sewed a shirt from some scrap fabric and dirtied it up a bit with coffee grounds and red paint.

The laughing sound module fits right inside the torso.

Step 9: House

House walls: ( I made the walls uneven to make the house look warped)

With grey yarn:

Back wall: (the back doesn`t have any windows)

Chimney

My chimney fits snugly around the servo motor, if you are using a different motor you may need to adjust the size of the chimney.

Step 10: House Assembly

Stitch the house together front to side to back to side to front. Likewise with the roof. Sew the chimney onto the top of the roof in the centre. Sew a square of black felt to the front of the house for the door. Cut out strips of brown felt "boards" to cover all but one of the windows. Cut out a ominous human-like shape from black felt and attached to the inside of the unboarded window.

For structural support I cut of pieces of cardboard the same size and shape (including the windows) as the walls. Taped them together at the edges and stuck it inside the house to help it stand on its own. I also used cardboard to support the roof.

I cut 2 small pieces of wood roughly the same size as the servo motor and another piece to fit underneath the motor. I sandwiched the motor between the 2 pieces of wood and on top of the third and taped it all together to stabilize motor. This fits snugley inside the chimney.

Step 11: Other Stuff

Pumpkin (I made two)

With off orange yarn. Don't stuff

Stitch the two branches to the tree. Since the tree will need to support the weight of the skeleton, I used some floral stem wire that ran through the length of the trunk out the bottom.

Step 12: Putting It All Together

Ground
I used a sturdy piece of cardboard with black felt laid on to top for the ground. I added some roving onto the felt so it didn't look so plain.

House
I placed the house along the back edge. I placed the string of lights inside the house except for 2 lights at the end which I pulled out the front of the house (under the felt). I cut two slits on either side of the door in the felt pulled the lights through and stuck the pumpkins on them. The battery supply sits behind the house, out of sight.

Tree and skeleton
The tree was place to the right in front of the house and hung the skeleton from the trunk (attaching it to the floral stem wire) to help support the weight of the skeleton I stuck the wire through the bottom of the tree into the cardboard underneath.

Zombie
I put the laughter module inside the zombie. Then I stuck a thumbtack into the felt near the front of the scene and placed the zombie over it. The sound is activated by a little button on the underside of the module. So when you press down on the zombie the spring is depressed and the button hits the top of the thumbtack and the sound is played.

Coffin
I placed the coffin just behind the zombie covering the music module. The music module is activated by pressing the top of the coffin.

Ghost and witch
I used a clear piece of plastic (I believe it was packaging from my Itouch) as a platform for the witch and ghost. I drilled a hole in the centre of the platform and screwed it onto the servo motor. I glued the witch and ghost to either end of the platform, facing opposite directions (check which way the servo spins so that they are facing forward as it turns). I used a 6V AC adapter to power the servo.
