Introduction: Crochet Paracord Pen Holder
Have you ever thought about crocheting with paracord?
Well, I didn't either, until I started to think about different ways to use paracord. Its strength can be useful for many purposes so imagine how many things you can make with it.
Since I mostly have thin cotton thread but always wished I could crochet with a real thick yarn I thought that this was the perfect occasion for me to try something similar...and it worked!
All you need is paracord and a crochet hook big enough for it (I used a 5mm hook).
Let's start!
Step 1: First Round
Grab your crochet hook and paracord and chain 3, as you would normally do with regular yarn.
If you tend to crochet tightly, like I do, I recommend you to work in a much more loose way in onder to be able to pass the hook through the loops.*
When you are done with the 3 chains, close in round making a slip stitch in the first chain.
*Believe it or not, I actually ended up breaking the tip of my wooden crochet hook when I first started this! So keep the cord as loose as possible...and, if you can, use an aluminium hook, I think it will be stronger.
Step 2: Second and Third Round
Chain 1 and make 2 single crochets in each stitch around, for a total of 6 single crochets. Slip stitch in the first stitch at the end of the round.
Again, chain 1 and make 2 single crochets in each stitch around. Slip stitch in the first single crochet.
Step 3: More Rounds
Now chain 1 and make 1 single crochet in each stitch around. This way your work will start to fold and "close".
Make 6 rounds this way.
After the 6 rounds, your pen holder will be totally formed and you can finally make a slip stitch in the first single crochet at the end of the round.
You can even add more rounds if you want it taller, this is up to you.
This was the right size for my own pen holder so I ended it there.
Step 4: Almost Done...
Finally chain 1, cut the cord leaving some free, and secure it pulling it a little.
Now hide the end of the cord in between stitches so it won't be visible anymore and won't be able to move.
Your pen holder is done and completely secured!
Adjust it with your hands to give the perfect shape to it. You wouldn't imagine how sturdy it is!
