Introduction: Crocheted Beagle

Materials Needed:
Worsted Weight 4 ply yarn in Burnt orange, black and white
4.5mm crochet hook
Black buttons for the eyes
Something to stuff with
**This is my very first pattern. It is using Intermediate/experienced crochet techniques but I try to make it as simple as possible.
Step 1: First Round - the Head
Start with a Magic circle.
Step 2: Finishing 1st Round
Put 5 SC into the magic circle.
Pull tail to tighten
Slip Stitch into the first stitch you made, completing the round.
Chain one.
Step 3: Round 2
Put 2 sc into each of the previous stitches. (For 10 total sc)
Slip stitch, chain 1
Step 4: Round 3
2 sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, (For a total of 15 sc)
slip stitch, chain one
Step 5: Round 4
2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc (20 total sc)
slip stitch, chain one
Step 6: Round 5
Single Crochet into each stitch (20 total sc)
When you are about to do you slip stitch, use your white yarn
Chain 1
Step 7: Round 6
Still using white, 2sc, (switch to orange) sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, sc
(25 total sc)
Slip stitch using white, chain 1
Step 8: Round 7
Using white, sc, sc (switch to orange) sc into each stitch (25 total sc)
Slip stitch using white
Step 9: Round 8
Repeat steps in round 7
(Only difference, do not slip stitch with white, continue to use orange.)
Step 10: Round 9
Sc into each stitch using orange.
Step 11: Round 10
Decrease 1, sc, sc, sc, Decrease 1, sc, sc, sc, Decrease 1, sc, sc, sc, Decrease 1, sc, sc, sc, Decrease 1, sc, sc, sc
Step 12: Round 11
Decrease, sc, sc, Decrease, sc, sc, Decrease, sc, sc, Decrease, sc, sc, Decrease, sc, sc, Decrease
Step 13: Round 12
sc, Decrease, sc, Decrease, sc, Decrease, sc, Decrease, sc, Decrease, sc, Decrease
Take this time to stuff the head fully.
Step 14: Neck
For two rounds, sc into each stitch
Step 15: Starting Torso - Round 1
2sc into next stitch, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc,
Step 16: Torso - Round 2
sc, sc, sc, sc (Before finishing 4th sc, pull black yarn through instead of orange for a color change) (With black) sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, (Switch to orange on 7th sc) sc, sc, sc, slip stitch
Step 17: Torso - Round 3
2sc, sc, sc, 2sc (in second sc switch to black) sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc (In 2nd switch to orange) sc, sc, 2sc
Step 18: Torso - Round 4
sc, sc, 2sc (in second sc switch to black) sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, (In second sc switch to orange) sc
Now on the next sc switch to white for the start of the next round.
Step 19: Torso - Round 5
2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc (Switching to orange) sc, 2sc, (in 2nd switch to black) sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc (in 2nd switch to orange) sc, sc (Switch to white)
Step 20: Torso - Round 6
sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc (Switch to orange) sc, sc, (Switch to black) sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc (Switch to orange) sc, sc, (Switch to white)
Step 21: Torso - Rounds 7 & 8
Repeat steps in round 6
Step 22: Torso - Round 9
Decrease, sc, sc, Decrease, sc (Switch to orange) sc, decrease, (Switch to black) sc, sc, decrease, sc, sc, decrease, sc, sc, decrease (Switch to orange) sc, sc, (Switch to white)
Step 23: Torso - Round 10
Decrease, sc, decrease, (Switch to orange) sc, decrease (Switch to black) sc, decrease, sc, decrease, sc, decrease (switch to orange) sc, decrease (switch to white) sc
** Take this time to stuff the body.
Step 24: Torso - Closing
Decrease (Switch to orange) continue to decrease until the hole closes.
Cut a long tail, slip stitch at the end pull the tail through and tight to close. this tail then can be hidden by using a yarn need to pull it through the body.
Step 25: Snout
Start with magic circle.
put 5 sc into circle, pull tight slip stitch to complete round.
2nd round
2sc into each stitch (10 total sc) slip stitch
3rd round
chain 1, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc, sc, sc, 2sc
4th & 5th round
sc into each stitch
cut yarn leaving a long tail.
Slip stitch pulling tail through, and tighten.
Step 26: Attaching Snout
Using a yarn needle, use the tail of yarn to attach the snout just under the white mark on the head.
*Before it is all the way attached, stuff the snout.
Step 27: Creating a Nose
Using the needle and black yarn, create an upside down triangle shape.
The fill it in with the black. (Ends can be hidden by pulling them in through the head)
Step 28: Back Legs (make Two)
Start with magic circle (And white yarn)
Put 5 sc into circle, pull tight slip stitch to complete round
2nd round
sc into each stitch (switch to orange)
3rd, 4th, & 5th round
sc into each stitch
cut yarn leaving a long tail.
Use tail of yarn to attach the legs at the base of the torso.
** I do not stuff the legs, as they are so small
Step 29: Front Legs (Make 2)
Repeat the steps for the back legs just adding a 6th & 7th round
attach at the top of the white marking of the torso.
Step 30: Tail
Using white yarn
Make magic circle
3sc into magic circle pull tight & slip stitch to complete round
2nd Round
sc into each stitch (change to black)
Repeat for rounds 3&4
slip stitch pulling long tail through to use to attach. (attach on bum )
Step 31: Ears (make 2)
Chain 5 + 1
Sc into 2nd stitch from hook, sc into each stitch, chain 1, turn
sc into each stitch, chain 1, turn
sc into each stitch, chain 1, turn
2sc into first stitch sc, sc, sc, 2sc chain 1, turn
2sc into first stitch sc, sc, sc, 2sc chain 1, turn
sc into each stitch, chain 1, turn
sc, half double, double, treble, double, half double, sc chain 1, turn
sc into each stitch, finish stitch and weave in ends.
Attach
Step 32:
Add eyes and you are done!! Give your beagle a new name and a forever home!
