Introduction: Crock Pot Apple Pie Dip

About: In a valiant attempt to keep myself from dying of boredom, I create.

I love caramel and apples (see this Instructable, https://www.instructables.com/id/Caramel-Apples-1/)
but what I really LOVE is apples dipped in butter milk syrup. So why not make a dip, using a crock pot, apples and a modified butter milk syrup. This is what I came up with.

Step 1:

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup butter
  • ¾ cup butter milk
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla flavoring
  • 1 Tbs. baking soda
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp cloves
  • 5 cups peeled and chopped apples (your choice)
  • Pie crust of your choice (https://www.instructables.com/id/Cookie-Pi-Crust/)

Supplies:

  • Crock Pot
  • Large sauce pan
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Rubber scraper
  • Spoons

Step 2:

Turn the heat on the stove top to medium. In a large heavy sauce pan, melt the butter

Step 3:

and add the buttermilk (I have buttermilk powder which you add to water)

Step 4:

and sugar.

Step 5:

Stir with the rubber scraper.

Step 6:

While cooking, measure the spices into a small bowl, set aside.

Step 7:

Bring the sauce to a boil (usually for Buttermilk syrup you stop here) keep cooking stirring every once in a while to keep it from burning. The goal is to reduce the amount of water in the sauce so that it becomes thick. Cook for 23 (+/-) minutes or until it reaches 220°F. It should be reduced to about half.

Step 8:

Remove from the heat and add the vanilla and soda. Stir.

Step 9:

This should foam to about triple the size.

Step 10:

Pour the sauce into the crock pot and turn on Low.

Step 11:

Peel, core and cut up 4 to 5 medium size apples (this should make about 5 cups of chopped apples).

Step 12:

Pour the apples and spices into the crock pot,

Step 13:

stir and put the lid on.

Step 14:

Let the crock pot cook for 2 to 3 hours.

Step 15:

It can be served, warm or cold. I can also see this poured warm over vanilla ice cream. For dippers I made cookie pie crust found here: https://www.instructables.com/id/Cookie-Pi-Crust/. Or you can buy a pie crust or use your favorite pie crust recipe. After I made this, my Hubby came into the house wondering where the apple pie was, because the house smelled like apple pie.

Oh my this is GOOD. Enjoy!
