Introduction: Crock Pot Apple Butter

Recipe

5 lbs apples

1 1/2 cups white sugar

1 1/2 cups brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp allspice

1 tsp lemon juice

Peel and core apples. Mix 1 tsp lemon juice with 2 tbls water mix on apples to keep from turning brown.

Drain liquid and chop apples.

Put in crock pot. Mix the rest of the ingredients and then mix with apples.

Cook on low for 10 hours with lid on crock pot.

After 10 hours should be small chunks but not big lumps. If you like your apple butter real smooth you can mix in blender or mash with potato masher.

Remove lid from crock pot and cook 3-4 more hours on low until thick.

Heat jars and lids in boiling water. Put apple butter in hot jars and seal. If you do not want to can, it will last a couple of weeks in the fridge.

Great on biscuits or toast.

    You can use store bought applesauce too!

    Found those huge cans on sale for little of nothing and used this method with great success.

    If you add ginger you get what the stores used to call spiced apple butter. Great on pork!!

    Sounds so tasty! Is there anything crock pots can't do? Definitely doing this next time I pick up some apples. Thanks for sharing!
