Introduction: Crunchy-Coated Rainbow Grapes

About: I enjoy crafting, photography, gardening and cooking. I am an avid cooking contester and I have won several national contests.

Here is a new snack that I think everyone will love! I decided to try adding a candy shell coating to fresh sweet red grapes and then dip them into 6 gelatin rainbow colors. I wasn't sure that this was going to work, but I gave it a try. To my surprise they turned out great and I was so very pleased with the results: crunchy, sweet, flavorful, fun to make, candy coated grapes in rainbow colors! They are so very unusual and very pretty! Follow along here to see how to make them!

Supplies

Ingredients

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup water

1/4 cup light corn syrup

1 (3-ounce) package green (lime) gelatin

1 (3-ounce) package orange gelatin

1 (3-ounce) package blue (raspberry) gelatin

1 (3-ounce) package red ( strawberry) gelatin

1 (3-ounce) package purple (grape) gelatin

1 (3-ounce) package yellow (lemon) gelatin

24 sweet red grapes

Tools needed

1/2 sheet pan

silicone baking sheet

water in a spray bottle

24 toothpicks

wooden spurtle or wooden spoon

candy thermometer

3-quart saucepan

6 small bowls

1 cup measure

spoon

Step 1: Make Little Bowls

Open the 6 gelatin packs and pour each of the colors into separate little bowls.

Step 2: Add Toothpicks

Place the grapes on a plate. Use a toothpick to spear each grape being careful not to go all the way through the grape.

Step 3: Make the Candy Coating

In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Cook over medium to high heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 300 degrees F. Use a candy thermometer to ensure accuracy. Keep mixture over a low heat to avoid having the mixture cool down.

Step 4: Grape Dipping

Using the toothpick, dip each grape into the candy mixture, allowing any excess to drip grapes off.

Step 5: Roll Them!

Immediately roll the coated grape into the color of gelatin of your choice. Immediately place it on the silicone baking sheet. There are 24 grapes, so make 4 of each color.

Step 6: Spray and Coat

To enhance and intensify the colors, spray each grape with water using the spray bottle. Sprinkle each grape with more gelatin powder. Place the tray of coated grapes in the refrigerator for 1 hour to harden the candy shells.

Step 7: Ready to Enjoy!

Remove the toothpicks from the grapes. Once the candy coating has set, your beautiful candy coated grapes are ready to be enjoyed! Serve them as a tasty snack or incorporate them into your favorite desserts for a burst of sweetness and color.
