Introduction: Crocheted Bells Doily

Doilies aren't very functional these days, but they can be very festive for the holidays.
Here's a small doily in a bell pattern you may like, colors are up to you, and it was made entirely with odds and ends from other projects.
I'm using pretty thin thread, in white and green to make a small doily, but this would look pretty made up larger with a heavier thread and hook. Other colors that would look nice are blue and white, silver and blue, white and red, or red and green. It could also be used as wedding decoration, done up in the wedding colors.
Materials:

Step 1: Starting With a Ring
Ok,I'm assuming you have a basic knowledge of crochet: how to chain (ch), make a slip stitch (sl), single crochet (sc), and double crochet (dc).
Chain 3,
join with a slip stitch to make a ring
Chain three ( I like to incorporate the tail of thread in this. With a bigger ring, I may lay the tail along the ring and crochet over it. It saves having to weave it in at the end)
Make eight double crochet in ring and join to starting ch 3 for a total of 9 stitches.

Step 2: Rounds Two and Three

Make one dc in each of next 2 stitches of previous row and chain 4.
Make one double crochet in each of next 3 stitches, and chain 4.
Repeat once.
Slip stitch in top of starting chain.

Repeat around, ending with a slip stitch between last ch 5 and top of first chain 3.
Row 7
Repeat row 6
Chain 3
Double crochet in each dc from previous row (11 stitches including the starting chain)
Ch 5, sc in first loop from previous row
Repeat ch 5 and sc across next four loops, ch 5
Dc in next 11 dc from previous row
Repeat around, ending with a slip stitch between last ch 5 and top of first chain 3.
Row 7
Repeat row 6
Step 5: Rounds 8 and 9

Chain 3, dc in same stitch, **two dc in next stitch, dc in each dc from previous row until you get to the last two stitches, which get 2 dc each.
Ch 5, sc in first loop, ch 5 sc in next loop, repeat around ending with a ch 5 and 2 dc in next dc from previous row** repeat instructions between ** twice, ending in a ch 5 slip stitch in the beginning ch 3.
Row 9
Repeat row eight ( there will be a couple more dc in the center of each bell).
Chain 3, dc in same stitch, **two dc in next stitch, dc in each dc from previous row until you get to the last two stitches, which get 2 dc each.
Ch 5, sc in first loop, ch 5 sc in next loop, repeat around ending with a ch 5 and 2 dc in next dc from previous row** repeat instructions between ** twice, ending in a ch 5 slip stitch in the beginning ch 3.
Row 9
Repeat row eight ( there will be a couple more dc in the center of each bell).
Step 6: Rounds 10 and 11
Row 10
Slip stitch BACK along the ch 5 for 3 stitches **
Ch 5, sc in third dc of previous round, ch 5, sc in fifth dc of previous round, ch 3, skip on stitch from previous row, one dc in each of next two dc of previous round, ch 3, sc in third stitch , ch 5 sc in 4th stitch, ch 5 , sc around next loop
Ch 5, sc in next loop repeat around until you have reached the sc in the last loop. Then repeat from ** twice. For the last ch 5, substitute ch 3 and dc in the starting stitch.
Row 11
Ch 5 sc in next loop around, BUT when you get to the two dc, make 3 half double crochet in each (like a dc, but after pulling a loop through the piece, pull the next loop through all thread on hook). End with ch 3 and a dc in the starting ch.
Slip stitch BACK along the ch 5 for 3 stitches **
Ch 5, sc in third dc of previous round, ch 5, sc in fifth dc of previous round, ch 3, skip on stitch from previous row, one dc in each of next two dc of previous round, ch 3, sc in third stitch , ch 5 sc in 4th stitch, ch 5 , sc around next loop

Ch 5 loops all around, ending with a chain 5 sc in starting chain, and lock stitches down by pulling loop large and passing the ball of thread through it and then pulling tight. Bells complete.
Ch 5, sc in next loop around, where the 6 hdc are, sc between the third and fourth hdc. End with ch 3, dc in starting stitch.

Step 8: Changing Color & Trim
Change color
Cut main color thread and weave end through chain loops. Attach new color by making a sc in ( not around) the center of the loop before the loop where the main color was knotted.

Chain 5 sc in next ch loop, repeat around ending with ch 3 and a dc in starting stitch

Step 9: Finish It Up

Chain 5, sc in next loop, repeat 4 times, ch 3, dc, ch 3, treble crochet (trc), ch 3, dc, ch 3 in sc between current and next ch loop- this should put you right over the clapper of the bell. Sc in next loop, ch 5 sc in next loop for 7 loops, ch 3, dc, ch 3, trc, in sc between current and next ch loop, ch 3 sc in next loop. Repeat pattern around, with the little motifs over the clappers and in the center of the chain loop spaces. End with a ch 3 and dc.
Row 16
Ch 6 sc in 3rd ch from hook (makes a picot) ch 2, sc in next loop. Repeat until you get to first motif. From preceding loop, ch 2, dc in dc, ch 3, trc in trc, ch 2, dc in dc, ch 3 sc in next loop. Ch 6, sc in 3rd ch from hook (picot) ch 2sc in next loop. Repeat until you get to next motif.
At next motif, ch 2, trc over dc, ch 6 sc in third ch from hook (picot) ch 2 quadruple stitch (yarn over hook 3 times) ch 3, sc in top of quadruple stitch (another picot made), ch 6 make picot, ch 2, trc in dc ch 2 sc in next loop. Ch 6, picot, ch3, sc in next loop.
Repeat around doily ending with a picot chain five and slip stitch in starting stitch.
Pull last loop on hook large, pass ball through loop and pull tight to lock thread. Cut with about an inch extra,and weave the extra through the crochet to hide it.
Chain 5, sc in next loop, repeat 4 times, ch 3, dc, ch 3, treble crochet (trc), ch 3, dc, ch 3 in sc between current and next ch loop- this should put you right over the clapper of the bell. Step 10: Make It Pretty
Steam iron, with or without starch, or dry clean to make it really nice, and lay flat and pretty.
