Hello there Instructables viewers all over the world. This is my first Instructable in a long time and as an amateur jewelery designer/someone who fiddles with jewelry pieces this item has been on my to do list for a very long time. So without further ado I direct you onto the instructions of how to make this Cute Bunting Necklace.

Step 1: What You Will Need

Essentials for this project are:

Fabric Offcuts
Scissors
A needle and thread
Some String

Some optional but recommended extras are:

A pen
A lighter
A ruler
Some card stock

I would say basic sewing skills are also needed but I can't say I have them, I just went for it and hoped for the best

Step 2: Cutting a Template and Making Triangles

Making the triangle is purely down to personal preference. My triangles were quite little and dainty but others may wish to go for bold and eye catching. A template should be cut from card and should be an isosceles triangle- a triangle with two sides the same length- my triangle had a base of 2cm and a height of 2cm which I then joined up to give a small triangle.

When It comes to actually making the triangle I like to either place the template inside and fold and crease the fabric around it before removing the template or fold the fabric into a triangle shape and attempt to match the sizes. Either way works and once again it is personal preference. The second method seems to work better but takes a little more dexterity and a lot more patience.

As shown in the picture a fair amount of fabric should be left at the top of the triangle, this will be used to attach it to the cord later.

Step 3: Stitching the Triangle

In stitching the triangle I simply used the creases and stitched along creating a straight edge like a hem on a trouser leg. The folded edges also lend a little in structural integrity keeping the triangles.... triangular. This part can be tricky and I'm sure there are better people on this website to teach you how to sew than me but basically a straight edge should be sewn onto both diagonal sides and the base can be left open. The first picture is the triangle having just been stitched and the second is after I used a lighter to singe the threads. I would recommend using a lighter but scissors work just as well. You now should have a triangle with an open base which is the same size as your template plus a little fabric at the top for attaching. Repeat for 3-5 different fabrics.

Step 4: Tying the Knot

The key to this necklace looking good and like a real string of bunting is the use of string and the necklace being fairly tight. For this reason I have opted for a sliding knot to make the necklace fully adjustable. It is simple two basic knots as shown in the pictures. One piece of string is taken and a know is began at the start of end 1, end 2 is then put inside the knot and it is tightened part way down end 2. End two is then tied onto end one and a sliding knot is created as pictured.

The string should then be worn and the places where you wish for the triangles to be should be marked.

Step 5: Sewing the Triangles to the String

At your desired locations take the triangle and fold the extra fabric from earlier over the string making a flap.

I begin by sewing a line parallel to the string stitching material to material. This locks the material onto the string but still allows it to move along the length of the string. I then repeat this but this time I stitch through the string so the triangles and permanently stuck to the same place.

After sewing all excess and be trimmed and burned away and you should be looking ate something like the third picture in this step.

Step 6: Gifting

After all triangles are sewn you should be left with the finished product as shown above and in the first step.

As said before this Instructables has been itching to be made for a long time and I believe it is a simple, elegant piece of jewelry
