Introduction: DIY Polarity Reversing Switch

i attempted to make a switch to change the direction of a DC motor. My switch changes the polarity of the motor therefore changing the direction the shaft spins. This concept can be applied to remote controlled cars, robots, and much more. I hope my instructable can help you on your next project.

Supplies

You will need:

- soldering iron

- hot glue gun

- pliers

- hot glue stick

- soldering wire

- tie wire

- a plank of wood (this will be used as the base)

- a coffee stirrer

- some hobby wire

- a power source (1 AA battery and its corresponding battery pack)

- 4 small nails ( i used 7/8 in wire nails)

- one small DC motor ( i used on from a salvaged remote controlled car)

- 1 Popsicle stick

Step 1: Step 1

start by attaching your DC motor to the base. After you have done that, hammer your 4 wire nails in.

Step 2: Step 2

Now tie the wires in a criss-cross pattern as shown in the diagram. add a bit of solder to strengthen the joint.

Step 3: Step 3

Cut 2 pieces of tie wire and bend them to form a L shape. Now hot glue the two Ls on a piece of Popsicle stick.

After you have done that, tie some hobby wire on each L. Lastly, solder the end of each wire onto the terminals on the DC motor.

add a bit of solder to strengthen the joint.

Step 4: Step 4

cut two pieces of the coffee stirrer and hot glue them in between the nails. then slot the Ls between them as shown into the picture. now attach the power source to the two nails as shown in the diagram.

add a bit of solder to strengthen the joint.

Step 5: Step 5

if everything was done correctly, your motor will be able to spin in both directions.
