Introduction: DIY: Christmas Ornament/Decorative

About: Computer enthusiast. Movie lover. Game lover. Loves to make things.

In this you will learn to make your own Christmas decorative. You can use to decorate home or even gift to others.

Step 1: Things You Will Need

  1. 3.5mm and 4.5mm crochet hook
  2. Cotton string
  3. 8ply yarn in 2 different colours (main colour and contrast colour)
  4. Toy stuffing
  5. Yarn needle
  6. Scissors
  7. Hot glue

Pattern notes:

You’ll need to know how to make a magic ring/circle.

You will be crocheting in spirals

.When decreasing, I used the invisible decrease technique – if you’re not familiar with this decrease, a regular single crochet decrease is perfectly fine to do.

Step 2: Getting Bauble Ready!!!!

You can use main colour, with 4.5mm hook.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12)

Rnd 3: Sc 1, inc; rep 6 times (18)

Rnd 4: Sc 2, inc; rep 6 times (24)

Rnd 5: Sc 3, inc; rep 6 times (30)

Rnd 6: Sc 4, inc; rep 6 times (36)

Rnds 7 – 12: Sc around (36)

Rnd 13: Sc 4, dec; rep 6 times (30)

Rnd 14: Sc 3, dec; rep 6 times (24)

Rnd 15: Sc 2, dec; rep 6 times (18)(Stuff bauble firmly with toy stuffing)

Rnd 16: Sc 1, dec; rep 6 times (12)

Rnd 17: Dec 6 times (6)

Continue to stuff firmly. You may need to use the end of a pencil or crochet hook to push stuffing inside.Fasten off and leave a long tail (about 10 inches). To close the bauble, use a yarn needle and weave the tail end through all 6 stitches in the front loops only then pull tail end carefully. Weave in and hide tail end in the bauble

Step 3: Making "CAP"

For "cap" use contrast colour, with 3.5mm hook

Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12)

Rnd 3: Sc around BLO (12)

Rnd 4: Sc around (12)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Step 4: For Star Shape Design

For making Star you use contrast colour, with 3.5mm hook

Rnd 1: 10 hdc in magic ring. Sl st to 1st hdc to join.

Rnd 2: Ch 1. In same space as ch 1, make (sl st, sc, hdc, dc, ch 2).

In next stitch, make (dc, hdc, sc, sl st). *In next stitch make (sl st, sc, hdc, dc, ch 2).

In next stitch, make (dc, hdc, sc, sl st)**. Repeat from * to ** 3 more times.Fasten off by joining to ch 1 made at the beginning of Rnd 2.

Hide tails at the back of the star and trim off excess yarn.

Step 5: The Final Touch

1. Using the long tail end from the cap, sew the cap on top of the bauble. Lightly fill with stuffing halfway through then continue to sew close. Weave in and hide yarn tail.

2. Carefully attach the star to the front of the bauble using hot glue.

3. Thread a cotton string through the top of the cap to hang on your tree.

And it’s done! Make as many as you like in your favourite colours!

Step 6: Abbreviations Used

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet

  • hdc – half double crochet

  • dc – double crochet

  • inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch).

  • dec – decrease (sc 2 together)

  • sl st – slip stitch

  • BLO – back loops only

  • rep – repeat

Hope you all like it!!!
