Introduction: DIY Hand Crafted 3D Doll in Indigo(moulded).
I had my summer vacation so something new was to be done something different , so I thought of making out something different something hand crafted hence I decided to make a doll using all waste materials easily available at home . I saw some indigo Color paints left over at my home so instead of buying new one I decided to use this colour and make a beautiful decorative doll out of it.

Step 1: MATERIALS USED
- Indigo fabric paint
- Cream fabric paint (for skin)
- White sheets
- A plastic bottle
- A hard paper sheet
- Glitters
- Marker(BLACK,RED)
- Glue
- Old newspapers(FOR PAPER MASH)
& SOME BASIC TOOLS LIKE
- Glue gun
- Scissors
- Scrapper
- Paint brush
- Paint mixing plate
Step 2: PAINTING THE WHITE SHEETS
Paint both the sides of white sheets with indigo fabric paint .
TIPS-:Do not use the paint directly on the paper mix it with little water and use a thick brush to spread it on the sheets.
It is not necessary to spread the paint evenly since the uneven texture will give different shades to the roses.
I used 6 A4 size sheets ,you could use any no. of sheets according to the size of your doll.....
Step 3: MAKING QUILLED ROSES
Cut the painted sheets into even squares as shown in the image. Now cut circles out of the squares
After you have cut the circles its time to make the quilled flowers.
For making the quilled flowers:-
- First you have to cut spirals out of circles as shown in the third image.
- Now start quilling the spiral cutouts from the corner (take help from 4th & 5th image).
- Ones you have quilled all the cutouts place them together.
Step 4: Making Base of the Gown
Take a plastic bottle which is of no use to make the base of the gown. Now mark the upper end and lower end of the bottle using a marker. Next make vertical lines from the lower end. The vertical line is not touching the upper end as shown in the image.
Now cut the upper and lower end according to the marked lines on the bottle. After that make cut from the vertical line as shown in the image. Now take a hard sheet of paper and make it like cone which would give the gown the shape of an umbrella, when the cone is fixed under the bottle.
Step 5: PREPARING THE GROUND
Fix the cone under the bottle using the glue gun. Then take the indigo color roses you made and start sticking it on the bottle from the bottom of the cone using Hot glue.Stick it carefully, the distance between two flowers should not be too much. Stick the flowers in a compact manner so that the white color of the cone or the bottle is not visible after sticking all the flowers.
Step 6: MOLDING THE BODY OF DOLL
To prepare the paper mache take the waste news papers, fevicol and water. Now take a bowl and take some water and then add fevicol to it and mix it well. Don't take too much water make sure the resultant solution is sticky. Now tear the waste paper into small pieces and mix it with the prepared solution properly. Now use the paper mache to make the the body as shown in image . First make the chest and then the hands, face and her hair. Give the perfection to fingers, face and hair using a knife if you are not able to do it with hand.
Now let it dry for a few hours in the sun light. Then fix the body with the gown using the glue gun. If the hands are not remaining fixed with the body(chest part) or the head is not fixing with the neck properly, you can use glue gun to do that. Make sure that the outer texture of the body is smooth.
Step 7: GIVING a FINISHING TOUCH
To make her upper part of the dress use indigo fabric color and paint it evenly. Next use cream fabric color to paint her body, hands and face. Use indigo color to paint her hair and also use some silver glitters to add luster to it. After the paint has dried make her eyes using black marker.Use glitters all over her gown to add luster to it. Use red fabric paint to paint her lips.
At last make a necklace using small beads & paint.
