DIY Hand Sew Tablet/laptop/ebook Case With Recycled Inner Tube

In this DIY I´ll explain how to hand sew a case with recycled inner tube. I have made it for my ebook but it´s for laptop, ebook, tablet...

I have done the measurements using my ebook as reference.

Supplies

The supplies are basic:

-Inner tube

-Fabric (I used canvas because is very resistant)

-Zipper

-Waxed thread

The material:

-Ruler

-Knife

-Needle

-Scissor

-Tweezers

-Awl

Step 1: STEP 1: Cut the Inner Tube

Cut and wash the inner tube. After that, measure the length of the ebook and cut 1 cm longer. Cut as much pieces as you need to cover the width of the ebook (I needed 4 pieces)

Step 2: STEP 2: Sew the Inner Tube

Sew the pieces between them to do a whole piece of it. I first sew them in pairs with two sewing rows with 0.5 cm of distance between them. Then I sew the two pairs of inner tube. I did a 1.5 cm distance of the two sewing rows of this sew.

Step 3: STEP 3: Cut the Fabric

After sewing the inner tube, we have the measure to cut the fabric. I used canvas because is a resistant fabric but you can use another fabric. If you prefer, you can use no fabric at all because inner tube is very resistant. Let 1.5 cm of margin in order to do the hem.

Step 4: Step 4: Sew the Inner Tube, the Fabric and the Zipper

This is the most complex step but it´s not so difficult. I used the tweezers to put the zipper in the correct place. I decided to round up the corners. This makes easier to sew the corners. I first sew one side of the case and then the other one.

Step 5: Final Result

If you have reached this step, congratulations! Is an easy DIY, but it requires time because is hand sewed.

Excellent Instructable! I love how neat & organised everything is in your photos & instructions. It's awesome that you were able to be sufficiently detailed while still making the process seem very easy & doable. I'm an adult with Autism & ADHD, so that's very helpful stuff for someone like me :) I did have a question for you:
Do you think it would be possible to add a thin layer of batting, foam or padding of some sort between the material & tubing, or would that cause it to be too bulky? Would it require a good bit more stitching to keep the padding in place? I have a tablet that I really enjoy, but despite my best efforts to be careful, I do tend to drop & misplace it a lot. So, a padded case would be beneficial. I also wondered if some type of exterior handle would be possible to create. That would presumably make the tablet easier to transport (& hopefully harder to misplace).
Well, now that I am actually thinking about it, I guess there are really quite a number of ways of potentially customising your ingenious case, how exciting! I definitely plan on giving it a go since I've got a few leftover tubes from a previous project (making DIY Ranger Bands, another awesome handicraft, btw). I thought about adding something when I was thinking the design. I think that if you use a thin material it will be easier to sew it. But if you do with a thick material, you should take in account the thickness when you cut the inner tube and the fabric. I decided not to use it because for me the inner tube was enough for the use that I give to my ebook. My case is going to be used specially to carry my ebook in my backpack. The handle would be a great improvement too.
Everything you can imagine will be a very good improvement! If you do it and you do improvements I would love to see what you do.
