Introduction: DIY Hover Plant

About: We create amazing levitation projects using electromagnets.

Floating magnetic planter

Step 1: Materials

  1. cigar box
  2. old tin beer can
  3. levitation device (this is the one I am using)

Step 2: Wiring

Drill a .5" hole in the back of the cigar box for the power cord to feed through

Step 3: Wiring

Feed the power cord through

Step 4: Wiring

Connect the power cord to the magnet base

Step 5: Planter

Cut the top off of an old tin beer can using a standard kitchen can opener

Step 6: Planter

By using a tin can, there is no need for glue since the magnetic disk will hold tight, however if you choose to use an aluminum can (or any other material for the planter) glue will be required

Step 7: Hover Plant

The plant used in the photo is a succulent (which requires soil), however I highly recommend using air plants since they are much lighter.

I was wondering if the plant sank down when you watered it. I guess from your last step that it does.

Yes - it is better to use air plants (tillandsia) for this project since they weigh less and require less watering.
