About: Self-taught seamstress who loves sharing her passion for sewing with the world.

Hi everyone!

In this sewing tutorial I’m going to show you how to make small and large fabric bookmarks with rounded corners. If you love books and want to sew your own bookmarks, this sewing project is perfect for you. These bookmarks also make a great gift for friends and family.

Important note: I use the metric system and make the exact conversion from cm to inches in the hope of helping. Please adapt these measurements to your ruler.

Hope you enjoy this tutorial. 🥰🪡

Step 1: Cut the Fabrics, the Ribbons and the Fusible Interfacing

- Cut the fabrics, the fusible interfacing and the ribbons for your bookmarks.

- Heat seal the ribbon ends using a pocket lighter.

Step 2: Make the Rounded Corners and Apply the Fusible Interfacing

- Mark the stitching lines with a heat erasable pen. These lines will be the reference to place the fusible interfacing.

- The seam allowance is 0.7cm | 9/32" for both the large and small bookmarks.

- Use a rounded corner template to trace the rounded corners of the fusible interfacing. For the large bookmark use a 4cm | 1 37/64" circle template and for the small bookmark use a 2.5cm | 63/64" circle template.

- Following the marked lines, cut away the excess fabric for each corner.

- Lay the fusible interfacing on the top of the fabrics, as shown in the images.

- Apply the fusible interfacing with the iron to the wrong side of the front and back bookmark fabrics. Make sure the side with the glue is facing the fabric.

Step 3: Place the Ribbon, the Front and the Back Pieces Together

- Mark the middle of your bookmark, with a heat erasable pen, and place the folded ribbon.

- Then, mark the opening. Leave an opening of 5cm | 1 31/32" in the large bookmark and of 4cm | 1 37/64" in the small bookmark, so you can turn them right side out.

- Place the right sides of the front and back fabrics of the bookmarks facing each other, as shown in the images, and clip them together.

Step 4: Sew the Front and the Back Pieces Together

- Adjust the stitch length according to your preferences.

- Use a 90/14 sized needle.

- Sew with a seam allowance of 0.7cm | 9/32".

- Trim off the excess fabric.

Step 5: Turn the Bookmarks Right Side Out

- Turn the bookmarks right side out.

- Press the bookmarks.

Step 6: Edge Stitch the Bookmarks

- Edge stitch 0.3cm | 1/8" away from the edge of the bookmarks.

Step 7: Finished Corner Bookmarks

It's done! Happy sewing! 🥰🪡
