Introduction: DIY Lace Thongs
There is nothing I love more than lace underwear! I will teach you how to make lace thongs for only a couple dollars. It is mind blowingly simple and will take less than 10 minutes!
You don't need to pay their expensive prices to get brand name lingerie.
Step 1: Materials
Stretch Lace Trim - 45" length, approx. 2" width, the length depends on size, I am a small so I needed 45", see the next step to figure out how much lace you need.
Cotton - about 3 square inches, try to match the color of your lace, not necessary
Step 2: Cutting Lace
Waist band: cut two 14.5" pieces of lace
Crotch: cut two 8.5" pieces of lace
Step 3: Pinning Lace
Waist band. Place the 14.5" pieces on top of each other, if the lace has a front side you want the fronts facing inwards. Pin each end together, you should only use 2 pins total, one on each end.
Crotch: lay the 8.5" pieces out the same as the waist band (fronts facing inward). Pin the pieces together by placing the pins down the center of the lace pieces. When you are about 1.5" - 2" from the end curve the pins towards the corner of the lace. See picture for assistance
Step 4: Sewing Individual Pieces
Waist band: use serger to sew each end of the waist band together. If you don't have a serger use a zig-zag stitch and make sure it hangs over the edge of the lace.
Crotch: use serger to sew along the line of the pins. BE CAREFUL make sure you are doing this on the correct side. What ever corner the pins curve to you want to sew on that side of the pins (see image). If you don't have a serger first cut on the side of the pins you would have sewn on the serger, then use a zig-zag stitch and make sure it hangs over the edge of the lace.
The end of the crotch piece that gets wider will be on the front of the panties.
I provided images so you can see how the individual pieces turned out.
Step 5: Putting It All Together
Each end of the crotch piece will be sewn to the waste band where the waste bands meet. So, as shown in the picture, the seam on the crotch line up exactly with the seam on the waist band. Do this for both ends. Noticed the seam is facing upwards for both the crotch piece and the waist band.
Sew them together with your sewing machine using the zig-zag stitch. You will want to use a thread that is the same color as the lace b/c it will show up on the front of the underwear. I didn't have pink thread so I used clear thread.

You didn’t finish the tutorial! How do you add the cotton lining and what about the sizing?! I am going to sew both the cotton pieces on three sides together and then turn it right side out and then sew the cotton to the panties following the outside crotch/bikini line on the sides and leave the front and back off the cotton open to let in air and stay cool. For size I’m thinking add a half inch of lace for each waist piece for every size up, adding an inch. So medium would be 15” for each piece 15.5” for large and 16” for xl and a half inch added for each crotch piece which would increase its length by a half inch because the crotch doesn’t need to increase as much as the waist. 9” for the crotch pieces for a medium and 9.5” for large and 10” for xl etc

Recently I sewed a project without a serger so I hide the flare I sewed once the wrong sides facing each other and then the right sides facing each other to encase I guess you would say, the seem if you don't have a serger. Does that make sense?

What you did is called a French Seam. They are a great option for laces and other sheer fabrics.

Did I miss where the cotton comes in? A crotch lining, perhaps?

Did you put the pants on and edit the pic by drawing over yourself and miss out the pants, or lay the pants out and take a pic and draw in the character?

Are you talking about the cotton lining? Because I see it in the materials list, but not mentioned again.
And, while you're at it, how about the promised sizing guide? I don't see that either. Otherwise, great tutorial.

How did you draw that pic?

Wouldn't you want something to protect sensitive areas from that seam? A little cotton liner maybe? Does the seam really not bother you or are these meant to be worn only for a little bit, not the whole day long. Thank you for making this 'ible, it's great, I am just wondering about that seam.
