DIY Magic 8 Ball

Make your very own magic 8 ball with custom responses.

• Fillable Plastic Ornament
• Wood Burning Tool
• Foam
• Black Fabric Paint
• Water Repellent Glue (I used GO2)
• Water
• Glue Gun

Step 1: Watch Video

Step 2: Melt Off Nub

Use a hot knife or a wood burning tool to cut off the nub that sticks out at the top.

Step 3: Cut Foam Into Cube and Write on Responses

Cut a small piece out of the foam and shape it into a cube.

Using fabric paint, write your answers on each side of the cube. Make sure each side is dry before flipping it over to write on the opposite side.

Step 4: Glue Ornament

Line the edge of half of the ornament with the water resistant glue. Place the cube inside and press the sides of the ornament together.

Step 5: Poke Hole

Using the wood burner, poke a small hole in the ornament.

Step 6: Fill With Water

Fill it with water and seal the hole.

Step 7: Paint It

Paint the ball with the black fabric paint so it’s completely opaque except for a small section that’s wide enough to read the answer. This will likely need to be done in at least 2 layers, letting it dry in between.
