Introduction: DIY Origami Gift Box From Playing Cards

This simple project is an ideal winter indoor activity for kids and a way to reuse an old deck of cards.

Supplies

Just playing cards. One standard poker deck should be enough for two gift boxes. You’ll need neither glue nor scissors to accomplish this super easy project.

Step 1: Fold Two Cards

Take two cards and fold them like it is shown on the pictures.

Step 2: Make Six Square Sections

Connect the folded cards with the flaps to make a double-sided square section. You’ll need six such sections for facets of a box.

Step 3: Join Two Sections

Fold another playing card transversely and insert it into two sections to make a joint.

Step 4: Attach Two More Sections

Repeat the previous step to connect four sections.

Step 5: Make a Bottom

Take another section and make four joints to form the bottom of the box.

Step 6: Make a Lid

Take the last section and connect it to your box with one joint to make a lid.

Now you could put your gift into it or use the box as a desktop organizer for small items. You could also add three joints and make a decorative cube. Maybe you would like to fold the cards face-up. It is also possible to join these cubes in the same manner and build 3D sculptures!

Experiment and enjoy! :)
