Introduction: DIY Pirate Treasure Chest

About: I am an artist. And children's illustrator. Not much of a talker but a total geek when it comes to my sci-fi and anime Check me out at Instagram @im_rainbow_panda

This is a pretty cheap, quick yet simple diy prop. Great for a pirate theme holiday or event. See video

Supplies

  • Styrofoam cooler
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Any pirate decoration
  • Hot glue gun

Step 1: Prime

I first primed the styrofoam cooler with brown pain. Once that dried I made planks using dark brown and black paint.

Step 2: Painting Faux Wood

I dry brushed white paint to give the look of wood. I also added more black cracks in the wood to make it looked aged, and added black dots on each plank intimating nails in the wood. To glam up the box I used gold metallic paint and painted hardware to it. I also use the gold to make decorative nails.

To add the final touch , I use hot glue on LOW Temp to glue a plastic pirate coin for decoration. Skewers were added to the back to prop the chest open.

And final step fill it with whatever goodies you'd like. But instead of filling the entire chest with stuff, if using as a prop, add a piece of foam or plastic bags midway up and then stuff it with pirate booty. Enjoy.
