Introduction: DIY Pizza Box Plane

Hello, I'm a 8th grade student from a school in Sri Lanka. I want to join this contest as I got a creative idea of making something out of reused material, so after seeing the contest I thought of participating.

Supplies

First of all you will need;

  • 1 large pizza box
  • 2 micro servo motors
  • A old half broken toy car
  • A 7X20mm DC coreless motor
  • Plastic propeller
  • A template of the plane
  • 3.7v lithium battery
  • A battery charger
  • A switch
  • A pen clip
  • scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • glue
  • Duct tape
  • piece of metal wire

Step 1: Outer Layer of the Plane

Fist of all; we have to arrange the templates on the pizza box (below is the A4 size paper templates to be downloaded), then we trim it and paste it on the board with glue, after cut the board according to the template, then paste an extra piece of board in the middle, like the above pictures. I also made the 3D version on Fusion 360 which is a bit similar.(click this diy pizza box plane for file)

Step 2: Inner Layer of the Plane

Second, you must use the ruler to make a light thumbnail crease in the dotted lines. Then get a excess part of the remains of the box and cut a piece, long as 5inches and bend it into half, and paste it like the above pictures.

Step 3: Checking the Shape

Third, fold the board and check if there is any excess board jumping out or not getting together like mine, if there is any fix it. For me the two opposite wings under part has come out, so I cut it off, and even my front part not getting together, so squeezed it into place. After that stick together the pizza box like the above pictures.

Step 4: Circuit Diagram

Here I made the a simple rough diagram of the circuit, but for the servos you must cut the wires of the servo and solder direct into the motors, like the above images.

Step 5: Installing the Electronics

Put all the electronics inside the plane, use a small piece of corrugated cardboard and stick it to the two wing withe servo and a small piece of metal wire, you guys can attach the servos horizontally or vertically like the images above.

Step 6: Last Step (Connecting the Motor)

The last step, is to connect the motor or glue the motor using hot glue into the pen clip, after connecting it to the back of the plane like the above images. ohhh and don't forget to attack the parts of the wings at last.(Below is a video of the plane working inside my house, but couldn't fly it outside due to bad whether) here is the whether forecast in my place whether AND HAVE A NICE DAY
