Introduction: DIY Plastic Beer Keg Lamp

This lamp can be made from empty plastic beer kegs. Instead of plastic waste this keg can be upcycled so it can become a fantastic (pendant) lamp for your interior. As a bonus the other half of the keg can be used as a planter or holder for led candles.

Let's get started!

Supplies

Materials:

- empty plastic beer keg

- sponge and cleaning stuff

- lamp socket with screw-rings

- electrical cord (with power plug)

Tools:

- screwdriver

- sharp knife or (skill)saw

- pliers

Step 1: Take Apart and Clean

Make sure to release the pressure of the keg! by opening the valve gently with a screwdriver.

Remove the top cover and plastic tube so you can acces the inside of the keg. This can be done by using a screwdriver on the 2 clickfingers to separate both top parts.

Use warm water and dish soap to clean the inside of the keg.

Step 2: Cutting

Add some tape around the keg for marking the cutting line.

Use a sharp utility knife or skillsaw and cut the keg in half. You can decide what design you want by choosing your own dimensions.

Try to get a straight cut, but no worries if you will not succeed.

Step 3: Finish Edge

Cover your edge and make it look more professional by adding a finishing edge.

Try to make it a seamless as possible for a nice look.

Step 4: Electrical Components

Choose an electrical cord which fits your design and connect this to the lamp socket.

Use a lamp socket with 2 screw-rings which are big enough to clamp into the neck of the upper part.

By fixing one screw-ring on the top of the lamp socket and the other one on the inside of the keg a good connection can be made. Don't apply to much force or the plastic keg will crack.

Choose a LED-lightbulb so it wont get to hot. Go for a large bulb or for a small one, whatever you like!

Step 5: Your Ready!

The top part can be used as a great (pendant) lamp.

The bottom part can be used as a planter.

Enjoy your design! #zwartewouw
