Introduction: DIY Rocket Stove

About: My name is Micah Durfee and I love making things out of pretty much anything. I also like watching trains on the Florida East Coast. Check out my YouTube channel below.

This is a rocket stove made from the log of a dead pine tree. This is great if you need a stove when your camping or just want to try it out in your back yard like me!!

Supplies

1.Drill

2.1.25in drill bit (or whatever size you prefer)

3.A Log of wood (I used pine)

4.Measuring tape (not necessary)

5.Knife or Hatchet

6.Some type of saw that can cut wood

7.Something to light a fire with

Step 1: Cutting the Wood

First step is to cut the wood. I just used a simple hand saw but as long as it's made for wood any saw will work. I cut the log to 12in at first but then trimmed it down to 9.(pic.1)

Step 2: Drill the Holes

I used a 1.25in drill bit that was about 4.5in long(pic.1) and started with the hole on top.(pic2) Once that's drilled out figure out where you want the hole in the side(pic.3) and drill it out.(pic.4) Now that the holes are drilled out it's time to start the fire!!

Step 3: Starting the Fire

First I went and collected some strips of pine and then grabbed the saw dust and wood shavings from drilling out the hole.(pic.1) Once you have those supplies put a reasonable amount of shavings in the top hole(pic.2) and then use the saw dust to start a little fire to catch the strips of pine.(pic.3) When the strips of pine catch on fire put them into the side hole to catch the shavings on fire. Once the fire starts going it should catch the inside of the log on fire and you should be good to go. You'll also want to turn the hole in the side to face the wind so you can get maximum airflow.

Step 4: Watching It Burn

It was really fun to cook something on this. Here's a video of me boiling an egg!

And that's it, hoped you enjoyed. Let me know if you try it yourself:)
