Introduction: DIY String Art Sign

About: I am a Makeup Artist, crafter, party lover and mother.

I like to have things around my house that remind me of the important things in life. I decided to make a sign about something essential for existence: LOVE.

This is a great idea to reuse any wood remnants you have from other projects.

Step 1: Materials

Here's what you'll need:

  • Piece of wood
  • Printed design (if you want to do this "love" sign you can find the free printable here)
  • Scotch tape
  • Nails
  • Hammer
  • Knitting string
  • Scissors

Step 2: Tape

Place your design in the wood and secure it with little pieces of scotch tape.

Step 3: Key Points

Start hammering some nails in key points. This is an essential step so you can keep the design as perfect as you can and all the letters can be clear and readable.

Step 4: More and More Nails

Hammer more nails in all the perimeter of the letters. Try to put them at the same distance from each other.

Step 5: Clear

Take the paper off. It doesn't come off in one piece so be patient.

Step 6: String

Grab the tip of the string and make a double knot on one of the nails.

Hold the string with one hand and pass it around each nail to draw the perimeter of the first letter.

Start crossing the string in random nails to make the letter look darker.

Continue with the second letter and so on.

Step 7: Secure It

When you have finished and you are pleased with the result cut the string to make a double knot in the last nail.

Step 8: Decorate

Use it to embellish any space you want.

I made an anchor using this same technique for a candy table and then hung it in my son's room.

Use your creativity and make any shape or sign you want!
