Build your own toolbox organizer that will help keep you organized without breaking the bank. With a few simple items you can upgrade that old toolbox into an organized tool storage system.

Supplies

2x4 Blocks

Step 1: Find a Toolbox

Before you get started you have to find a toolbox to convert into your new tool storage system, once you've done this you are ready to move on.

Step 2: Measure the Underside of the Lid

Now measure the underside of your toolbox lid and transfer those measurements to a piece of plywood. Remember that you want the piece of plywood to fit inside the lid once you've cut it so, you're better off cutting it a little small.

Step 3: Cut the Plywood and Layout Your System

Once you have your plywood marked it is time to cut it out, grab your circular saw and carefully cut out your workpiece.

Once you have your workpiece cut out you can decide on a layout for the tools you want to store. I used battery mounts I found online for my batteries and a piece of velcro strap stapled in place for the safety goggles. If you are going to paint the plywood like I did you won't want to permanantly attach anything quite yet (only use screws).

Step 4: (Optional) Paining

At this stage, you can paint the plywood for a clean look; or leave it bare to show off your DIY handiwork.

Step 5: Mounting the Plywood to the Toolbox

Now that your plywood piece is done we have to figure out a way to mount it to the lid. Since my toolbox has webbing at the top I used a 2x4 block cut in half to mount to plywood. In order to prevent putting holes through the top of the toolbox I screwed the block in from the side of the webbing, keeping the toolbox waterproof. Once the blocks were mounted I was able to use two screws to attach the plywood to the blocks.

Note: If you have a toolbox with a little storage compartment built into the top of the lid you can also just open the lid and thru bolt the plywood.
