Tools and Materials:

  • Pure copper
  • Lighter
  • Scissors
  • Texture hammer
  • Copper wire
  • water
  • Marker Pen
  • Tape
  • Hammer
  • Tableting machine ect.

Step 1: Trimming

Trimming: Use scissors to trim a square-shape piece from the brass.

Step 2: Design & Cutting

Draw on the brass piece with a marker to draw out the shape of a leaf. According to the outlines of the leaf, trim off the shape with scissors.

Step 3: Heating

Heat up the brass leaf to soften it. When you see it turn from red to dark, cool it down with cold water.

Step 4: Thinning

Use a press-machine to lengthen the softened brass piece.

Step 5: Pruning

After pressing, the brass leaf will be trimmed.

Step 6: Shaping

Shaping step. Trim off a section of brass wire and use tape-paper to stick the brass wire and the brass leaf together.

Step 7: Embossed

The taped together brass piece and wire will be pressed by the table pressing machine.

Step 8: Remove the Tape

The tape-paper of the pressed brass piece will be taken off and we will see a press-line in the middle of the brass piece.

Step 9: Shaping

Use tweezers to fold up the brass piece following the middle press-line.

Step 10: Make Texture

The folded brass leaves will be hammered by a texture hammer and we will make the outlines of leaf’s vein by this process.

Step 11: Heating and Cold

Heat up the brass leaf and cool it down.

Step 12: Unfolded

Use tools to re-open the folded leaf and make it with a shape of opened. Also we could make different folds with our interest.

Step 13: Drill a Hole

Punch a hole on the surface of the leaf with tools.

Step 14: Polished

Polish the brass leaf and make the incision become smooth.

Step 15: Complete!!
