Introduction: DIY - WOOD PENDENT LAMP // FREE TEMPLATE
The unusual lamp with a wooden lampshade can be made very quick and with simple tools by yourself at home.
Tips: Feel free to dye the wood used or buy it colored. Also you can try out another length of the round timbers. At the end of my video I show two variations. Set your imagination free and be creative!
I would be pleasured if you share some photos of your work with me.
Step 1: Materialand
following materials will be used:
· MDF panel approx. 250x450x5mm
· round timber Ø10mm, 29pcs. 900mm
· cable and bulb socket E27 (available at IKEA )
· rubber ring or wood glue
Step 2: Tools
· drill
· drill bits Ø3mm and Ø10mm
· jigsaw
· circle
· scriber
Step 3: Template
I’ve prepared templates for precise working. They contain measurements I used in the video. The PDF file can be downloaded here for free.
Download:
1. DIY - WOOD PENDENT LAMP // SHORT
2. DIY - WOOD PENDENT LAMP // LONG
Fix the template on the MDF-panel using a masking tape. Mark all the centers of the drill holes with help of a scriber by pricking through. Don’t forget to mark the centers of the big circles.
Step 4: Drill
Best of all would be if you put the panel on a piece of an useless base like a wooden board. First you can drill through the paper using the 3mm drill bit. Now remove the template and drill out the holes with the 10mm bit.
Step 5: Saw
The circles marked with stripes on the template can be drawn on the MDF panel using a circle. Saw them out with a jigsaw and you get two rings.
Step 6: Assembly
First the bulb socket has to be fixed on ring1 tightening the ring between the two parts of the socket. Next push all the round timbers through the holes of ring1 so that their longer side points downwards and the shorter side protrudes upwards about 10cm.
Now place the ring 2 between the round timbers at a distance of 20cm from below. The timbers can be glued to the lower ring or, like you see in the video, they can be clamped with a stylish rubber ring.

Nice project; stylish yet simple to build for people who don't have a great deal of woodworking experience-- and requires minimal tools! Good of you to include the templates also. Projects like this are excellent means by which to introduce people to woodworking, and this one particularly serves to demonstrate that you can get into it and build beautiful things with minimal experience and tools, which I find are the main "mental obstacles" that most people who want to take up the craft need to overcome to show themselves what they can accomplish. Good job and thanks!

These look awesome, and pretty easy to do! Can you tell me what the total length of your dowels were on your finished project for the large and small templates please? I am just wondering if I can get 2 final length dowels from a 36" dowel to make the small one. Thanks!

I think he said the dowels were 900mm, or 90cm. Conversion is 2.54 cm / 1inch.
