Introduction: DIY Wood Clock Made From Recycled Items

About: Furniture Painting, DIY Crafts and Home Thrift Decor

Hi Instructables! Happy New Year! Today, I am going to share how I salvaged an Old Clock, Free Paint Sticks, and Wall Art with broken frames into a DIY Wood Clock.

Supplies

  • Old Clock
  • Wall Art
  • Paint Sticks
  • Woodworking Square
  • Scissors
  • Craft Knife
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Drill
  • White Wood Filler

Overall, the items you'll need in this project will just cost you under $5. You can find old wall arts and clocks in garage sales or in thrift stores for less than a dollar or 2. Also, the paint sticks I have were free from home depot! How cool was that!

Step 1: Disassembling

The frames of the Wall Art were already half out and it popped right away after using a hammer.

Then I disassembled the clock.

Step 2: Design

For the design, I cut the paint sticks accurately using a carpenter's square at a 45• angle.

Step 3: Mapping the Design

Once the sticks were cut, I mapped them out forming a chevron pattern. You can also make a herringbone design or other zigzag pattern but I find this design easy to make.

Step 4: Glue and Cut

I glued the paint sticks on their mapped location and then once they dried, I reversed the board and cut the excess paint sticks so they will fit perfectly in the board.

Step 5: Wood Filling and Sanding

I applied wood filler for the cracks and skimmed it all over the attached paint sticks. After it dried, I sanded it giving us a beautiful white finish.

Step 6: Reassemble

To attached the clock mechanism, I drilled a hole at the center enough for the mechanism and the hands to fit. Lastly, I put back the frames.

Step 7: Final Look!

I like how the old and trash-bound parts came together. It is beautiful as a decor and a functional device! I hope this project inspired you to repurpose items and sparked some ideas!
