Introduction: DIY1704 - RUFFLE-UP YOUR JEANS

About: I am a denim upcycler. I beautify flaws and brokenness of old jeans because I think being damaged shouldn’t be the end of the story, but something more like a cliffhanger for the next chapter. My aim is …

I have to admit I got a quite big girly girl girl side and when it's time to add ruffles somewhere I'm usually first in line. To my very delight this summer, ruffles is massive trend and so is funky hems of every type. I simply joined those two trends and sew-on a ruffles onto the hem of one of my old pair of jeans. The result is way too nice and as per usual, I wanted to share how to make it with you. Go girls let's ruffle-up our jeans!

TO MAKE IT HAPPEN YOU WILL NEED:

  • One pair of skinny jeans
  • Some leftover scraps from previous project. It is better to use lightweight fabric.
  • About 30cm elastic

Step 1: Watch This Tutorial Video

Step 2: Bevel-cut the Hem of Your Jean

Step 3: Go to My Website and Download My Pattern

Trace and cut the pattern on denim scraps from a previous project. You need 4 pieces

Step 4: Sew Together the Outer Lateral

Step 5: Cut the Elastic

Measure from the center to the outer side of your jeans hem and multiply by two this measure. This will give you the correct length needed for your elastic you will use to gather your ruffle.

Step 6: Sew on the Elastic on the Ruffle

Step 7: Compare the Length of Your Ruffle With the Length of Your Hem and Cut the Exceeding Fabric.

As all jeans are different size I made the pattern wider.

Step 8: Sew Together the Inseam of Your Ruffle and Fix the Ruffle to the Jeans

Step 9: Repeat All These Steps for the Other Side

Step 10: Share Your Project: #denimupcyclers

Step 11: Wear It:)
