Introduction: DOODLING 4 DUMMIES: Face

Materials Needed; Pencil, Eraser, Black Marker/Pen

*= Lightly draw whatever follows. This is intended to making future erasing easier and your final project more beautiful

Step 1: STEP:1

Step 1: *Draw an oval in the center of your page. An easy way to get a proper oval is to draw an egg. Invert your paper and then draw another egg the exact opposite direction. (i.e: The top point of your first egg is the exact bottom point of your second egg, and visa versa).

Step 2: STEP:2

Step 2: *Draw a cross in the oval. A vertical line going down the middle of your oval. And a horizontal line going across your oval. The intersecting point should be in the middle your oval.

Step 3: STEP:3

Step 3: *Now, draw 2 more lines horizontally across your oval. Each line should break the upper half and lower half in two, having four 'equally' spaced horizontal section. Repeat the same for the vertical sections. When you are done your oval should have 16 'equal' sections in a 4 x 4 grid. (Note: This grid will be your guiding lines for ears, eyes, nose, ect.)

Step 3 b: *For this tutorial label your grid 1-16. Starting at the top left with the #1 then ending with the #16 in the bottom right. Should read in order like a book left to right, and up to down.)

Step 4: STEP:4

Step 4: *Draw two circles, both about 1/16th the size of your oval. One having its center aligned over the intersection point of grids 3, 6, 9, and 10. And the other aligned over the intersection point of grids 7, 8, 11, and 12. (Note: These circles represent the EYES of the face and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 5: STEP:5

Step 5: * Draw a circle, the same size as the eyes, aligned over the intersection point of grids 9, 10, 13, and 14. (Note: This circle represents the MOUTH of the face and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 6: STEP:6

Step 6: *Draw a circle about half the size of your eyes, aligned in the middle of the vertical line that grids 10 and 11 share. (Note: This circle represents the NOSE of the face and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 7: STEP:7

Step 7: *Draw a circle about half the size of your eyes inside both of the right and left eyes. Center the smaller circle inside the eyes on the same intersecting points you did for each eye before. *Color in these smaller circles.  (Note: These circles represent the PUPILS and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 8: STEP:8

Step 8: *Draw two American football shapes inside each eye. They both should stretch horizontally across the eye, having both tips ending on the horizontal grid line. It should be center on the same grid point as the eyes and pupils. It should also be as wide as the pupil is, vertically. (e.g: see picture) (Note: These American footballs represent the EYE LIDS and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 9: STEP:9

Step 9: *Draw two parentheses coming off each side of the nose. They should both be centered; one off the outer left side and one off the outer right side of the nose (e.g: see picture). Then draw two circles for nostrils between the nose and parentheses (e.g: see picture). *Color in these smaller circles. (Note: These parentheses represent the NOSTRILS and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 10: STEP:10

Step 10: *Draw an American football shapes inside the mouth. It should stretch horizontally across, be vertically as wide as the pupil, and be center on the same grid point as the mouth (e.g: exactly like the eye lids). *Color in this American football. (Note: This American football represent the LIPS and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 11: STEP:11

Step 11: *Draw two parentheses. One in grid 9; starting in the center right and arch vertically to the bottom right corner. And the other parentheses in grid 12; starting in the center left and arch vertically to the bottom left corner. (Note: These parentheses represent the CHEEKS and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 12: STEP:12

Step 12: *Draw two parentheses on the outside of grids 9 and 12. The left one should start at the top left corner and arch vertically to the outside center left.
The put a question mark with no dot inside. Flip and repeat for right ear (e.g: see picture). (Note: These parentheses represent the EARS and will be referred to as such from now on.)

Step 13: STEP:13

Step 13: *Draw hair (e.g: see picture). (Note: If you cant figure out how to draw hair, guess what? Your face can be bald!)

Step 14: STEP:14

Step 14: Use your marker to trace your finished FACE, EYES, NOSE, EARS, CHEEKS, PUPILS, LIPS, MOUTH and NOSTRILS. Then erase all existing pencil lines on the paper.

Step 15: STEP:15

Step 15: Bask in your artistic glory.
