Introduction: Dad's Rocket Tonic Health Shot

About: I like to Tinker

This recipe came from my dad as a holistic approach to improve and maintain overall health. We both suffer from lower back pain, and he has more joint pains in the knees and shoulders. He swears by this and says that he can hardly function without it. It contains lots of nutrients that are great for everything from circulation to joint health. It contains:

1 Bulb of Garlic, peeled - (see the health benefits here)

1 small Yellow or Red Onion, peeled and cubed - (see the health benefits here)

1 piece of Fresh Horseradish, about the same size as the Garlic - (see the health benefits here)

1 or 2 Fresh hot red peppers, most of the seeds removed, or 1 tsp. Cayenne Pepper - (see the health benefits here)

1 Piece Fresh Ginger, about the size of the Garlic, peeled - (see the health benefits here)

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar with "Mother", enough to cover ingredients(about 2 cups) - (see the health benefits here)

If desired - Raw Honey to make this more palatable (1/4 - 1/2 cups) - (see the health benefits here)

Step 1: Purchase the Ingredients

You need to purchase the ingredients fresh or as pure as possible. I personally had a hard time finding raw horseradish, so I had to use the creamy grated horseradish that is in the condiment isle, but not the sauce. Trying to get everything out of the produce isle is the best way to go. The honey should have nothing in it but honey, and I honestly dont think there is a difference between clover honey, or wildflower honey, or sunflower honey (if that is a thing). So, if you prefer the flavor of one over another, then use that one. The Apple Cider Vinegar MUST have the "Mother" in it because it has more nutrients and health benefits than having it filtered out... like drinking apple cider vs apple juice, or jams vs jellies.

Also, you may want to pick up some V8 juice because you can mix this Rocket Tonic in the V8 juice and enjoy something that tastes very similar to a Bloody Mary. I use the spicy V8, but to be honest, there is enough spice in this mix to use the plain and still have it end up spicy.

Also, if you do not have a GLASS jar (enough to hold 3 cups) with a lid, I recommend picking one up. It is important the container be glass and not plastic because the plastic will react negatively with the vinegar.

Step 2: Prepare the Ingredients

Peel the garlic and all the cloves, and cut in half. Throw garlic into a blender or food processor. I use the NutriBullet.

Peel the onion and cut into cubes about 1 inch (basically making the blending easier for the blender) and throw in blender.

Peel the Ginger and Horseradish and chop into blocks about the size of the cloves of garlic and through into the blender.

Cut the peppers in half and remove seeds, then chop up and throw into the blender, OR add the tsp of Cayenne pepper into the blender.

Fill the Blender with the Apple Cider vinegar until all ingredients are covered, this will take about 2 cups.

If desired, add the honey at this point as well to make sure everything is blended well. (This is a rough, spicy drink, and I highly recommend the honey to make it go down smoother, plus Apple Cider Vinegar and honey has its own set of health benefits.

Step 3: Blend Blend Blend

You will want to blend this for a minimum of 2 mins. This will make sure everything is liquified and mixed well. The root plants are sort of grainy and take a bit of time to break up completely. When it flows like water in the blender it is almost done. Use your best judgement on this step. This will probably be close to 3 cups of liquid

When you are done blending, pour Rocket Tonic into the glass container and store, covered, in the refrigerator. This will keep for several weeks without any issue due to the acidity of the ingredients.

Step 4: Dosage

Shake well before using.

It is recommended you take 1 - 3 TBSP every morning. This concoction gives you plenty of energy, so try to take it in the morning with food. What my family does is add 2 TBSP into 8oz - 12oz V8 Juice as a breakfast drink. It tastes just like a bloody mary. It also cuts down on the shock of all that spicy mix in your mouth. It "goes down rough", as my dad says, but it is fresh tasting. The taste and after taste all dissipate after about 15 mins, but you feel much better within the hour.

Step 5: Disclaimer

Neither I nor my Father are doctors. Please make sure any medication you are taking will not interact negatively with any of the ingredients. Consult with your physician before drinking this if you have any questions about the safety or validity of this drink. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any signs of allergic reaction or any other health conditions that you may suddenly worry about.
