Dahlia Paper Flower Wreath

Intro: Dahlia Paper Flower Wreath

Decorate for Spring with vibrant paper!

My friend and I got together to make Rolled Paper Wreaths

for Spring--you can't plan too early, right?!
They are so vibrant, they add the perfect POP to the front door!

You could use Bold reds and Greens to make a Poinsettia for Winter too!


STEP 1: Supplies!

56 pieces of lightweight paper

15 Sheets of Martian Green
15 sheets of Terra Green

11 sheets of Pulsar Pink

11 sheets of Plasma Pink

2 sheets of Galaxy Gold (cut in half)

2 sheets of Solar Yellow (cut in half)

Cardboard circle for the backing (mine is 18" diameter)
You'll also need a hot glue/gun

STEP 2: Let's Roll!

Start rolling!
Roll the shorter of the sides and pivot while you roll,

so the bottom left corner is the bottom tip of the cone.

It takes some practice, but after 56 rolls...you'll be pro!

After you roll the cone, hot glue the top corner in place.
You are going to cut off the bottom tip in a minute,

so make sure you are gluing at the top of the cone.

STEP 3: Gluing

I alternated my greens for variety.
Cut about 2 inches off the bottom of the cones.

Lay them out on your circle of cardboard so you can see how they fit.

Then glue down on the cardboard.

Mine are about 4 inches into on the cardboard, and slightly overlapped,

but shooting out like rays of the sun.

STEP 4: Layer Pink!

Then I rolled 22 pinks!
I again trimmed off about 3 inches and glued them around

the cardboard further in the circle.

Slightly overlapping and alternating colors.
I used all but 6 of them. The remaining 6 were cut

another inch shorter and placed inside the center.

STEP 5: Yellow Center!

Then I cut 2 sheets of each yellow in half.

Rolled them and added them to the center.

It looked good...but like it needed something.

I took 1 sheet of paper and cut it in half.
then cut slits in it every half inch but didn't cut it all the way through.

Then roll it up--this time just like a tube, glue it in place and curl down the fringes.

And again with another half sheet of the other yellow.

Then I hot glued it right in the center!

STEP 6: Hang Up and Enjoy!

Awesome and beautiful!

I just cut a 2 inch slit in the cardboard backing and slipped it right onto an over the door wreath hanger.

Creates the perfect statement on the front porch!

My friend's turned out fantastic too!
She used lots of colors, different sizes and finished her center off with some coffee filter flowers!

I love creating big 3D projects with just simple paper!

Totally lovely. But Mother Nature can be a tough adversary as we in DC are about to experience as a nasty storm slams the East Coast just before Thanksgiving. Advice on how to strengthen the paper to withstand wind, snow, hurricanes, tornados, floods, etc. Kidding about that sort of weather, but my unprotected door will offer no shelter to such a lovely wreath. I could always put one in the window, but if you can suggest a method to strengthen the paper, please do so. Your colors are delightful. I look forward to checking out your blog. Thank you for sharing. After the storm, I hope to hang such a happy piece on my door on Thanksgiving day.

I get it! I actually keep mine on the inside of the door. I get comments on it all the time...but I thought even the sun would fade the paper. That's the trade off for making things with such inexpensive materials I guess! Enjoy the cold weather! :)
