Dead Fairy

This little creature will be happy to haunt your garden and home this Halloween.

This instructable shows you how to make your own with a few materials.

Step 1: Supplies

You will need to find:

Strand of skeletons - I found mine at Michael's. They scaled down skeletons with fixed joints except legs where they meet the hips.

Floral Moss,

Raffia fibers,

Yard scraps: Rock, leaves, sticks

Fabric remnants,

Twine,

Hot Glue,

Crème colored cardstock paper,

Brown or gold markers,

Scissors and

Hole punch,

Jar lid.

Step 2: Paper Wings

You will first need to take your little skeleton and draw wings for it.

I drew half of the wings, folded the paper and then cut out the entire set at once.

Draw some lines and shading on the wings in a similar color.

Hole punch tiny holes in the wings to make them look warn.

Roughen up the edges of the wings even more by cutting little pieces out and cutting slits.

Set aside.

Step 3: Joints and Clothing

These stiff little skeletons don't really do much as far as posing.

Cut the joints as you want. At the knees, elbows and shoulders.

Hot glue the joints as you will want your skeleton to pose.

Wrap some twine around the Skeleton's ribcage as a top.

Take fabric remnants to hot glue around the hip bones then tie twine around the skirt top.

I used some cabinet shelf liner for mine. Lace would work nicely too. Cut slits in the bottom of the skirt to make it look a little more frayed.

Step 4: Set Up Your Scenery

You can use a variety of objects from your hard as the fairy's setting.

I used a lid and hot glued a smooth rock into it. Then, hotglued a few bare branches to the sides of the rock. Some raffia bundled up looks like weeds. Cover any ground that is exposed with some floral moss.

You can also add some dried leaves from the yard.

Step 5: Wings & Hair

Add the paper wings to your skeleton, using hot glue.

You can add hair if you wish. A little snip of some synthetic hair or stuffed animal hair will work if you hot glue it to the skull. It's just fine if it is sparse- it looks even creepier.

Step 6: Props

Fitting your fairy with the right prop might come as an afterthought. My little fairy has a tiny birdcage with a sticker heart inside. Other ideas might be a little bottle of poison, cobwebs, a little sign or dried flowers.

Other items what would make this cool is a bell jar that went over the display.

Set your little creation out to spook everyone!

Love it! But...I used a craft heat gun to put the bend in their arms. Ya gotta be careful cos it is hot. But ya get good results in how it looks. They were much fun to make and were a big hit with friends.

Thanks. I thought of that too. The hot glue holds up okay but would not if someone (or some pet) started playing with it. Mine would have to be for display purposes only.
