Introduction: Decorated Mason Jar
When planning my wedding, I have been trying to make all of my own decorations. I knew I wanted flowers on each table as a center piece, but I wanted them to be in unique vases. After I looked around my house, I realized I had a lot of empty mason jars laying around, so I decided to decorate them to my liking
Supplies
Mason Jar
Burlap
Ribbon
Double Sided Tape
Rubbing Alcohol
Cotton Pads
Paint
Scissors
Newspaper
Paper Plate
Paint Brush
Water
Flowers
Step 1: Clean the Jar
Using a cotton round, cover the outside of the jar in rubbing alcohol to make sure that it is clean before painting.
Step 2: Prepare Project Area
Lay out newspaper or plastic on table for easy clean up.
Step 3: Prepare Paint
Put paint on paper plate. I used acrylic paint, which works best when painting glass.
Any color paint can be used for this project. I have chosen to use grey.
Step 4: Paint Jar
With any size foam brush, apply paint to outside of clean mason jar until it is fully covered.
Make sure that the full body and the neck of the jar gets covered in paint.
The bottom of the jar should not be painted so that it can be set up to dry.
Set jar aside to dry while you continue onto the next step.
Step 5: Cut Burlap
Cut burlap strips long enough to fit around the middle your jar.
Make sure that your fingers aren’t near the blades of the scissors when cutting.
Step 6: Cut Lace
Cut lace the same length as the burlap strip that has been cut.
Ribbon can also be used to replace lace in this step.
Again, make sure that your fingers aren’t near the blades of the scissors when cutting.
Step 7: Attach Burlap to Jar
Once jar is dry, secure burlap to middle of painted mason jar with double-sided tape.
First, put a strip of double-sided tape the length of the burlap on the jar.
Then, the end of the burlap can be placed on top of it.
Next, place another piece of double-sided tape the length of the burlap on top of the burlap that it attached to the jar.
Finally, wrap the burlap around the jar and attach the other end to the exposed tape.
Step 8: Attach Lace to Burlap
Secure lace to the center burlap on the jar with double-sided tape.
First, put a piece of double-sided tape on top of the burlap where the two ends are attached together.
Next, place one end of the lace on the exposed tape.
Then put another piece of tape on top of that end of lace.
Finally, wrap your lace around the jar and secure the remaining end to the exposed tape.
Now our jar is ready.
Step 9: Add Water and Flowers
Fill jar with water and add flowers.
Set your creative vase with flowers on your table to brighten up the space!
