Introduction: Decorating Letter "D" With Quilling Art

About: I love to make useful things with the help of Scrap. Creative and Innovative one.

In this session of Instructables I am creating a “D” letter decoration using quilling art involves rolling and shaping strips of colorful papers to form the desired design. I choose letter “D” because my name starts with letter “D”. You can use different letter or a complete word. Quilling is a versatile art form, so feel free to experiment with different shapes and arrangements to create a unique and personalized decoration. Let’s make it.

Supplies

  • Colorful papers
  • Quilling tool or Iron rod
  • Tweezers
  • Adhesive Glue
  • Ruler or Scale
  • Scissors
  • Paper cutting tool
  • Pencil or Pen
  • A4 Size Paper sheet
  • Adhesive tape
  • Old wall clock frame
  • Cardstock paper of 250 GSM paper Sheet (Size :– 18cm X 20cm)

Step 1: Prepare the Outline

Take a print of Letter D on a A4 Paper Sheet with the help of printer and cut out the letter “D” with some margin.

Now take a 250 GSM paper Sheet of size :- 18cm X 20cm and paste the letter “D” cutout on this paper with the help of Adhesive tape.

Lightly trace the outline of letter “D” on a piece of cardstock or paper with the help of pen.

Step 2: Basic Shape

Cut Some strips of the 250 GSM paper of width 15mm. First use your pencil or pen and ruler to draw lines 15mm apart from each other then cut the strips out using your Paper cutting tool.

Paste these strips on the traces of letter “D” with the help of adhesive glue. Don’t paste the strip on the top left corner of letter “D”. Glue the strips along the outline of the “D” to form the basic shape.

This will serve as the guide for placing the quilled pieces.

Step 3: Prepare the Quilling Strips and Basic Shapes

Cut different colorful paper strips to the desired lengths and width of the strips should be 15mm. I don’t have a quilling tool so I used a iron rod of diameter 3mm.

  • Tight Coils: Roll the paper strip tightly using the quilling tool or iron rod, then let it loosen slightly before gluing the end to secure the coil.
  • Loose Coils: Roll the paper strip but let it loosen more before gluing the end.
  • Teardrop Shapes: Pinch one side of a loose coil to form a teardrop.
  • Straight paper strips

Step 4: Fill the Interior

Use various shapes like tight coils, loose coils, teardrops and straight paper strip, to fill the inside of the “D.”

Arrange the shapes creatively, making sure they fit well within the outlined letter.

Glue each shape in place carefully, using tweezers for precision.

Step 5: Add Decorative Elements

I added a quilled peacock feather at the top left corner of the letter “D” using different colorful quilling strips for a more dynamic look.

You can add more decorative elements like scrolls, spirals, or additional quilled shapes to enhance the design.

Step 6: Let It Dry

Allow the glue to dry completely before handling the quilled letter.

Once dry, you can frame the quilled letter “D” or attach it to a card, scrapbook, or any other desired surface.

I used an old Wall Clock Frame for decorating this piece of Art.
