Introduction: Decorative Hanging Shelf

I researched many items / objects that helps people with organization from spice racks to desks with drawers. Most of the organizations objects / items were already made and had no room for more creativity or else it would be too complicated. I found that hanging shelves had more potential for organization, decoration, and also function depending on where you place it and is very simple.

In this instruct able you will go through my thought process and the whole process of me designing the decorative hanging shelf.

Supplies

Required:

- Autodesk Fusion 360

Step 1: Step 1: Market Research

There are a numerous amounts of hanging shelves, however they were bland and not really suitable for organization because they are vey short and not at all worth buying unless you buy them in bulk.

Step 2: Step 2: Inspiration

I found inspiration in the honeycomb design and and ability it had of combing together to create new designs and there are plenty of space to be able to place objects needed to be organize. I also found that shapes combining with other shapes make an interesting design and isn't bland as well as grant more space for organization.

Step 3: Step 3: Basic Shape of Shelf

I wanted to add some different shapes into one because of the space available on the inside would be wasted if not used and also it would look more decorative rather than just the same same over and over and you can't change the position of them.

Step 4: Step 4: Final Design

I changed made the edges on the outside rounded so as to not hurt the person if they bump into the shelf and I changed the top diagonal spot so that there can be space to put items on there.

Step 5: Step 5: Modeling

I extruded the sketch by 7 inches because shelves need to be thick for them to be able to hold items and objects, however I didn't make it 3 or 4 inches because it would be too skinny for items to be able to stand on it. Also I didn't' make it to long, because the person would not be able to grab the items in it.

Step 6: Step 6: Final Product and Conclusion

This is my final product of my hanging wall shelf. The material that should be used for making this product is wood, but I used oak in this example. If this is to become an actual product, it would be shipped like an IKEA furniture, the box would have all the wood pieces and the person would just need to drill in the screws.

This project was fun to see how much my creativity can be used since there are already many things that help with organizations. I would've liked to be able to explore more possibilities of the hanging shelves, however I am content with my product.
