Intro: Design for Homemade Drill Press

This is what I come up with In Sketchup For a design for a home DIY drill press.

It is designed to take a heavy Duty Electric Drill. It will work on a rack and pinion system and heavy duty draw roller bearing rails. It will also have a built in LED light and a drill depth guide on the side see pics. Most of this will be made from hard woods as will the rack and pinion. I would make the rack and pinion from metal if I had the machine to make it. This will be a build I do this year when I can fit it in...

Why not use a metal rail[U or H] and some plumbing parts for the advancement?i am schetching up one of these myself,but for thick mansonry drilling and horizontal operation.

Thank you for the subscribe. Whilst I was knocking around I couldn't help but notice this, it's freaking technical! I've considered designing one of these myself, but I'd be more inclined to use a simple collar to support my drill. It's seen better days and I fear that it'll need replacing soon.
All that being said, I'm intrigued! Keep at it
