Introduction: Desktop Synth Rack

This is not a step-by-step instructable. However, it has design information for the rack, as well as other useful components of the setup such as the desk and the cable tray.

Supplies

  1. Desk
  2. Desk casters
  3. Plywood (You can do with 3-4 pieces. You can get the sheets cut at Home Depot if you like).
  4. Molding (for ledges for the shelves, support beams)
  5. Corner Molding (shelf supports)
  6. Wood glue (& clamps)
  7. Screws (#4 - 1/2") (only if you need)
  8. Rubber trim (for the bottom edge of the rack)
  9. Power strip (accessory)
  10. Black corner brace (for cable management tray)
  11. Spray paint (I used 5 cans)

Step 1: Design

Notes

  • The desktop size is 48" x 30".
  • The material used is 1/4" plywood to keep the weight low. However it will need some support, especially the bottom shelf, which can be achieved by attaching small wooden beams underneath.
  • The bottom shelf is wider (13") than the other shelves to accommodate small keyboards if required.

Things You Can Do Differently

  • Use heavier plywood for the side panels.
  • Sand the wood and prime before painting.
  • Make the shelves less wide if you plan on keeping other items such as audio monitors on the desk.
