Intro: "Devil" Eggs (Dessert Eggs)

Why not give your party a suprise with these dessert eggs!!!! They look and feel like the real thing but the taste is sweet and tropical. Being that Easter is right before April Fools this year I thought I'd give my party an early April Fools treat and have a little fun. So after a few attempts and trial and error I figured out how to make these. It is a Pina Colada Jello with Pinapple Cream Cheese Frosting.

What you need 1-2 plastic or smooth glass egg serving dishes -I bought mine from the dollar tree (If using one split the recipe in half) (you could probably use plastic easter eggs that seperate down the sides but it would be harder to get them out and take more time)
Cooking Spray
3 Cups Pina Colada Mix
1/2 cup coconut milk & 1/2 cup water (Non alcoholic version) or 1 cup Rum (for the alcoholic version)
1 ounce (4 small envelopes) Knox unflavored gelatin

Cake decorating bag and tip
1 package cream cheese
1 box pinapple Jello Mix
1/4 cup hot water
1/4 cup pinapple mash (I blended mine in blender)
Yellow food coloring

STEP 1: Making Jello Eggs

Prepare your egg dish by spraying it with cooking spray and wiping any extra spray with a paper towel
Mix  your 1/2 cup coconut milk with 1/2 cup cold water
Add your gelatin packages to this mix and let it absorb
If doing the alcoholic version then mix your gelatin packages into the 1 cup of rum instead of the coconut milk mixture
Then heat your 3 cups Pina Colada mix to boiling
Then add your cold mixture to the Pina Colada mix and stir until the gelatin is desolved
Then carefully pour the mixture into each egg shape of the dish
Leave in fridge for 3 hours

STEP 2: Making Frosting

Heat 1/4 cup water to boiling
Add the package of pinapple jello to this hot water
Stir until all Jello is dissolved (You don't have to do this step if you don't mind your frosting having a sugar-crunchy texture)
Then mash your cream cheese and try to get it as smooth as you can
Then add your pinapple mush to your cream cheese mixture (I just blended canned pinapple in a blender)
Then add the Jello mixture one tablespoon at a time to your cream cheese and pinapple mixture
You want to do this slowly so that your frosting doesn't become too runny
If you made it too runny you can try adding some powder sugar to help thicken it
If your frosting isn't yellow enough, you can add a few drops of food coloring to the get it to the color you desire.

STEP 3: Finishing Touches

Add your frosting mixture into a cake decorater bag
Then carefully remove your eggs from the "mold"
Then frost each each egg on the thicker end of the egg
Frosting in a circle to make it look real
Have Fun!!!!!!

Clever you!!! Excellent work! ;-D
This is so cool! I am definitely going to make this. Any ideas for a suitable substitute for the traditional sprinkle of paprika on the top of the 'eggs'?
Wilton makes a sugar dust that you might use. It comes in all different colors. Or maybe dry orange or cherry jello?
The dust would work great!!!! That way you can keep the tropical flavors
I was trying to think of something but didn't have time to search but maybe some reddish sprinkles or finely chopped reddish chocolate. Maybe you could try something like that :) Good luck!!!
This is very clever and funny. I wish I had seen it before April Fools, but might have to not wait til next year!
Thanks!!! Why wait for April Fools, they are fun for any party ;)
They look different but have a great taste :) similar to a jello salad. I'm very excited about the final result! Hope you try it out :)
To be honest, I just posted that comment in a review / overview video I did for the Instructables Android App. I guess you can say your "devil" eggs instructable is "featured" in my video. Its a new channel so we will see if it gets views and how many. Check it out here if you want: http://youtu.be/5G91LFzGaYg
Oh :) well thanks for letting mine be an example on YouTube ;)
Ooooh! I saw the main picture and I'm like, okay, deviled egg, but then I came and took a look and NO! Cooler than a deviled egg! Nice job!
Thanks! Maybe I should have given them a different name so people know its not!!! :)
Maybe :) I pinned it under the name Dessert "Deviled" Eggs
